Even for a 46 yo rn the actor seems too young. But i think that post was supposedto be about them in current day after all bc kinger didnt even know he was a dad and 47 seems like a bit late to start.
Honestly, I kind of figured Kinger just never brought it up because the characters typically glossed over their backgrounds except for one point. Kinger already had wife to be sad about because she abstracted, since Mildenhall manor was teasing him and brought up theoretical children and the chessboard at his office had pawns, I thought it implied he was a 47 year old senior developer with 2 late high school/ early college aged kids. You know, so they don't have to really worry about their kids starving and being homeless without them if they belived they were whisked away to the digital world.
Although, realistically Kinger, Queenie and Scratch should all have been completely aware they were copies. They were testing out the copy program that makes brain copies for lulls and research. Why would they be surprised that it worked? Kinger when sane seemed to be aware that they were copies, so it's a huge plot hole that they weren't originally more... okay with it? It's like baking a cake and then being surprised it's not a turkey. It just doesn't make sense.
Either way, it didn't seem weird that Kinger could be aware he had children and that they were fine. You would think he'd be an experienced programmer to create life, but I guess he was a newbie fresh out of college one and is just hitting 47 now... but then his copy would have a brain of a man frozen at 29. I could kind of see Ragatha being just starting her job and still living with Mom so her being 30 and successful now makes sense. Jax was probably stunted at whatever age Goosewerx was when he came out as trans... so 16-18 in reality, and not so much 22. There's nothing that would cause their brainscans to mature like a biological brain would.
Anyhow, I saw it in theaters. There were a far amount of kids at my showing (it was also much emptier than it was listed to be). I don't think they liked it because it was dead quiet at the end. I think I heard one person say they were sad they didn't save their boy.
Honestly, I think it would have been better for the narrative to just save Jax for all that effort and screentime. It seems so masturbatory to spend that much runtime in a movie on a character that already dead and just stays dead. Plus, it almost seemed like Pomni's efforts might amount to something until the other characters just make her stop? Did they set the anti-abstraction landmines? Why were there anti-abstraction landmines? I mean we get novel half-abstracted designs as a figureset, this would have been the perfect setting and time to just do the Steven Universe healed corrupted gem thing. Then you could even repair the mindfiles of the previously abstracted with the memories of the revived, like a chain. End on the note of them having the potential to build a much wider simtown for mind files.
I agree with a comment someone said earlier that there should have been more set up. Where did Pomni even get the idea she could go inside an abstraction? Kinger didn't with his wife, he just had a last moment with her in the external world. It would have been more narratively satisfying if they brain stormed that... or had any hand in recovering Caine instead of him just deciding being deleted sucked and he would just come back to life.
If it was meant to be a flashback, it certainly didn't look like it, it looked like he revived Scratch for the sake of using his identity to get onto the internet.... which if he could do that why not just revive everyone now that we all know how to fix their emotional damage? Like an epic do over. They are all just sims you can reload.
I don't see how Gangle got a job at an art agency unless it was some sort of disability outreach. She draws like a grade schooler who got Christopher Hart's How to Anime.
Jax's confession to his Mom was probably transfeelings... but let's see how that worked out. Seems his real life self decided to perhaps be non-committal gender non conforming, but still be a guy and has a decent life now. Trans Jax commited suicide and died and regretting never telling his Mom he was sorry. I think this is an apology from Goosewerx to his Mom because she was right and he regrets what he did to himself... but it's too late. The most detrans trans allegory.
