In that entire time, including however long it was just her and Kinger, she somehow didn't discover he becomes lucid in dark places? Somehow in all that time there were never any circumstances in Caine's wacky adventures that forced them into the dark, but then Pomni arrives and she just happens to be in the right place at the right time to wind up alone with him in a scary dark basement? Yes, and it’s why Netflix originals have such a bad reputation, such a bad reputation that Netflix started going out of their way to attach it to shows they acquired from elsewhere, like Pokemon and a ton of the anime that was not produced by Netflix but the American distribution was picked up, so that people would stop treating it like the new straight to video.
Ironically, Netflix shut down the majority of their animation production because most Netflix original cartoons were terrible and no one watched them. Outside of Big Mouth, Gabby’s Doll House was the only real success they had, which is a toddler show.

The real question is why losing your mind makes you abstract, but Kinger was able to lose his mind and never abstract. He's even calmed down by the same stuff that makes the abstracted people calm down, and we see with Jax's abstracted mind that getting flashbanged (light) OBLITERATED his conscious thought, so light messes with them, too. Something interesting could've been done with Caine giving his programmer dad special privileges to make sure he doesn't abstract or something, meaning Caine meant the "they won't abstract, I won't let them." thing.

I've recommended people play Spark the Electric Jester 3 to see this trope done right a fair amount of times. Spark died thousands of years ago, found out he's a digital copy, still sentient, conscious, and he eventually gets over it. He tried to kill himself at some point but he had a better friend than the dogshit characters written into this show, so he stopped being a pussy and didn't kill himself, and accepted that he's still the same guy as the guy that came before him. One guy wrote and made all 3 of those games, but Cooper needed how many people to fuck this one up?

Both living and dead, uploaded or not, a life matters, and TADC is just nihilistic edgelord bullshit that should have been cancelled before we saw how awful Goose is at concluding a story.
