People think that artists are misunderstood and oppressed, because for years, we have only heard their side, and them exaggerating outlier cases.

Say, maybe the execs don’t want to have a gay kiss scene every episode because it’s a show for kids, and they want to be able to air it, and sell toys in China, and Russia, instead of bothering with a controversy and bans?

Then you will hear a creator bitch online because they didn’t get their Reddit gold, and asspats from woke opinion articles.

If anything Glitch may help people realize that most aren’t misunderstood geniuses, and the vast majority do need to be wrangled.

I just want to also make it clear, I don't like Gamoverse and I don't care if it succeeds or fails, so far it seems okay? What I care about is seeing something any example of these people making something at least narritively competent and functional, TADC had serious flaws but for the most part a lot of that can be chalked up to the distaste for the style and sense of humor, the style is very aggresive and in your face so if it's not for you then it's not for you, ok fair enough. But the ending isn't just weak, it completely breaks everything good the show had going for it and I'm honestly baffled how Goose completely dropped the fucking ball mere inches from the endzone. Like it or not these basket cases are the most current loudest voices for "indie" animation right now, it's either them or the Dreamworks, Sony, Disney, Illumination conglomerates. I love animation, I think it's an incredible but tragically underutilized and bottlenecked medium, I genuinely cannot fucking stand how pretty much all of these cornballs are inspired by the exact same shit and make the exact same shit. I want them to prove me wrong I want them to make something that can maybe push us closer to getting something up there with the original Avatar: TLA, good mature storytelling for all ages that doesn't constantly patronize the shit out of you either by: A) treating you like a completely broken failure of an adult with writing that is just glorified therapy sessions for the characters, (I.E. TADC, Bojack) or B) treating you like a retarded ape person with writing that's filled to the brim with gore, sex, and heckin curse words like cunt and fuck (I.E. Invincible) those are the only two flavors of """mature""" storytelling we get in animation today.

I so so desperately want an indie animator to come out of the woodwork that's inspired heavily by literature and film instead of video games and cartoons. As of right now Umami is the only one that's doing it with any semblence of success, does Safe Mode and Interface get even a tenth of the attention shit like Gameoverse and TADC has? Of course, not. This is what I mean when talking about animation being bottlenecked, how is animation supposed to move forwards or make anything interesting or new if everyone in the idustry and everyone who's watching suffers from arrested development and refuses to expand, mature, or develop their artistic tastes? I have zero doubt in my mind most if not all of the writing problems modern animated projects face today stems from everyone part of the project consuming nothing but media they consumed when they were kids, it stems from the industry being run by actual manchildren who refuse to put the toys and cartoons down for anything else. And don't tell me it's always been like that, because legends like Craig McCracken and Genndy Tartatovsky just to name two, were inspired by so so much more than just the bullshit they consumed when they were kids and that's how they were able to make truly forward thinking and great animated art, solidifying themselves as greats in their respective industry both in the areas of style and writing. The people currently leading the animation industry are so not those guys, artists these days legitimately cannot believe or understand how the person who made powerpuff girls could be just a regular ass dude. It doesn't make any sense, to them good artists are supposed to be mentally ill suicidal spiraling messes not normal and well adjusted men with decent amounts of life experience.

Edit: I completely forgot to bring up Miyazaki as an example, debateably the greatest animation director period, he was inspired by history, aviation, his childhood, literature, and the people he knew and loved around him. Is it any wonder why he fucking despises 99% of the shit that falls out of the ass of the animation industry?

I doubt it. Autistic theory-crafting, (and outsiders laughing at the psycho fanbase) seems to be the only things keeping the show in the public eye. Once the ending is out that well is gonna run dry very quickly. I'll be surprised if anyone remembers this shit exists by next year.

These are all excuses I’ve heard and seen countless times. I think the biggest thing holding people back is their unwillingness to put money where their passion is. Sure you could make a comic and have it be your exact vision, but you’ll have to pay for an artist or editor if you can’t draw to comic spec and many people don’t want to do that. Or they can draw well enough to even animate themselves but they don’t want to do it in their spare time while having a job. A lot of these people want to get paid for their idea and then have other people do the heavy lifting while they “lead” the project.

And it’s primarily because they’re in it for fame and fortune. If you truly had the desire to create and tell stories and you truly wanted to follow your passions, you would make the time and money. It could take a long time, but you’d do it. No different as any other hobby. If you can afford to do things like drink alcohol, eat out, or play video games you can afford to pay an artist to make a comic. The irony too is a lot of studios including the big ones are more willing to work with you if you can produce a professional looking comic because it shows you have work ethic and a proof of concept.

This is also why I hate the comics gate people because comics are notoriously easy, and relatively cheap too. I’ve personally had 20 page comics made for around $1000, and gotten it done in less than a month.

I hate fandoms so goddamn much, just the word is enough to annoy me at this point. Harlan Ellison and Miyazaki were 1000% fucking right about how awful otaku, fandom, and OC culture is, the way fandoms use art as a way to escape from their fellow man rather than connect with them absolutely disgusts me. I don't even call myself a fan of anything anymore, I just say I enjoy X a lot and leave it at that, being a "fan" of anything is mental poison, am I wrong? These people have yet to prove me otherwise. Besides how did we all forget what the word fan even mean? We're all aware fan is short for fanatic right, and being a fanatic of anything is pretty much always a bad thing because it breeds insane and cultish behavior.
 
Again this show had its moments the episode where Pommi and Kinger are in the haunted house alone and talk was a decent moment. But the thing is you need this kind of thing a lot more than what 5 episodes or less.
I thought everyone wanted fewer therapy talks. Though I guess at least that one revealed something new about a character that mattered.

Yeah it was therapy talk but it had purpose and as you said revealed an important detail to Kinger character ( the whole sane in the dark thing ). Of course I am not saying all of TADC should’ve been structured like that but it’s more of a decent example of if you really need to do it how to do it semi right.

Something interesting could've been done with Caine giving his programmer dad special privileges to make sure he doesn't abstract or something, meaning Caine meant the "they won't abstract, I won't let them." thing.
Gooseworx was too pussy to have Caine go full AM. But boy that would've been something. Especially if abstracting is akin to a death of the mind which would explain their animalistic behaviour.
