Outside of that, I still love the original avatar (fuck whorra and fuck the cat smurfs) and believe it holds up pretty well, it's also one of the last fee good things to come out till woke ruined everything.
Cat smurfs?
I'd always just assumed non-bending air nomads hitch rides on bison.
why else would they have large passenger saddles manufactured for them?
That's like asking why your car has passenger seats.

James Cameron's

In a world where driving is an inherent talent that some have and some don't, where drivers can pull a motorbike out of their pocket and go driving from anywhere but receive an SUV when they come of age, a conversation about the potential treatment of non-drivers in a driving society doesn't seem complete without questioning the passenger seats.

I really don't understand your point. You have legs but you still use a car.

If 5 air nomands want to travel between two locations they're gonna use a bison because its easy and fast and they're gonna need seats for everyone.

My point is only that it's a bit silly to claim that nomads must all be benders for accessibility reasons when they have established means of passenger transport to and from temples; if every bender gets a bison as shown and there are no non-bending nomads there's a surplus of seats, that's all.

I don't think that literally all benders get bison, Aang was a prodigy so it makes sense he'd be given one. I assume higher ranking nomads or people who wanted to get experienced with riding had their own and temples still had communal stables. (Like with horses)

Anyway all nomads being airbenders comes from the creators and the temples are clearly made to be primarily accessed and used by airbenders. If everyone can fly with a little practice and a glider it makes sense that temples would take that into account.

Aang may have been a prodigy but I coulda sworn the regular dipshit kids were also meeting bison in the flashback where Aang got Appa, it seemed like they had a lot of them.

I don't actually disagree with this but the creators are also hack frauds and a lot of shit just doesn't make sense.

Maybe there was a non bender caste that lived at the start of the mountains amd grew the food the nomads consumed while meditating about their farts. Now those poor fucks were 100% fucked when the fire nation attacked. Hell the benders probably took the benders born in the non bender caste to keep their numbers.

Maybe bison are like horses, some people like horseriding some don't. Could be they were taking them out on joyrides instead of being bonded.

I mean yeah no shit, logically speaking we should ignore everything past book 3 of the original, but we're going based off what we're given.

Original writers have said that air nomads had absolutely no non benders in their ranks. Airbending was special in that way because it was more spiritual than the other elements.

The most bullshit moment in Avatar has to be Jet's death. People are showing to be able to survive far more brutal bending attacks in Avatar but what kills jet is just Long Feng shoving earth up his chest.
Jet has shown to be a strong bodied character before so for him to die so easily doesn't mesh right of what we are shown of his character. Toph even did a similar move on Sokka in another episode but he ends up fine and it's treated like a joke.

Pretty sure having a graphic death scene wouldn't work well in a children's tv show.

Only thing i remember is feeling annoyed at the show expecting me to feel bad for the dude and his group, it's been a while since i saw the show as a child but Jet was a prick

Well he tried to manipulate Aang and Katara into helping him destroy a town full of innocents just because they were under Fire Nation occupation.

I wonder what happened to Jet's other child soldiers that didn't reappear. Did the Fire Nation kill them or did they split off from Jet once it was revealed they were killing a city of innocents (since it seems like only Jet and his lieutenants knew the full scope of the mission), either forming their own resistance groups or just going off to live their lives, disillusioned with the whole movement.

The Air Nomads just sound like a creepy religious cult, what with the forced separation of children from their parents and then subsequent raising of said children isolated from the opposite gender in temples in groups overseen by a council of old men.

Do you think Aang tried to revive that piece of his culture (using the Air Acolytes) and Katara put her foot down or did even he recognize how skeevy that part of the Air Nomad culture was?

Ah Ok, so whenever a baby was born among them they would chuck it from the mountain and if that fucker wasn't feather falling from the get go than it clearly wasn' t an air nomad, *nudge nidge wink wink*

As for Jet, he was a cunt and that's that. His death was handled pretty sloppilly though, not even a depiction of his shadow being pierced, but I guess this was one of those battles with the network where they lost.

Jet's un-death at least made for a fun callback in the Ember Island episode.

As for murdering all of the air nomads, it isn't rocket science. The fire bros, knowing well in advance that they were going to murder all the air nomads, pre-positioned troops by all of the air temples. Comet comes, they run in and blow up everything in sight, bing bang boom all the women and children are on fire, the end. Order 66 takes care of the majority of the population, then they spend a few years hunting down and murdering the stragglers.

There's no forced seperation. All nomads are benders, if all benders were forced to stay in temples they'd die out. Aang's parents willingly gave him up.

- Benders were trained in Temples - this would mean all children of the Air Nomads were taken away from their nomadic parents and raised in sex-segregated temples. This (1) is fucked up; (2) means that, as training takes time, children are learning the temple culture from monks and not the secular traditions of their nomadic parents.
I assumed that kids staying at temples was just a boarding school situation and not whole of their culture. If airbenders were nomads then having everyone in few permanent settlements wouldn't make much sense so I figured that these were just cultural touchstones. I'm not saying this what creators ment, just my own personal theory.

Kids grow nomadicly with their parents until they are old enough for formal education in the temples and even then not everyone goes. What we seen from the other nations not everyone bendes. You need to be born with tendency towards bending and you need training to utilize that talent. So kids that show air bending abilities go to the temples for few years to study and most go back to the normadic life with honed in air bending skills. Sex segregated temples being about keeping the learning environment peaceful but not how air culture overall works. Few extra talented that like temple life stay on as new monks and teachers.

I will admit that my theory both works and doesn't work with air bending genocide. This would mean that temples wouldn't have holded all the air benders, just the ones who teach others so important to destroy but not all there is. Most would have been spread around as nomadic family groups traveling as they please and so harder to kill just in one go. Still fire nation probably just could have tracked down the nomadic families one by one. Something like this has happened with real life genocides but there has been survivors. Some airbenders would have managed to stay hidden but maybe bloodlines just mixed too much with other benders over the years so the airbending part was essentially lost there too.

I assume they just crushed his rib cage and he was slowly asphyxiating. Collapsed lung and all that.

The most bullshit part of Avatar is the fire nation not developing bombs to drop on the outer levels of Ba Sing Se effectively starving the inner city.

I've repeated this like 50 times in this and the other avatar thread, but ALL AIR NOMADS ARE BENDERS. There are no non bending air nomads. They are unique in that regard, and it was confirmed by the creators.
