The Aliens extended cut is a bit tooooo long and ruins the pacing quite a bit. But the theatrical cut cuts the ripleys daughter is dead bit. I can't recall if it was mentioned in Alien she had a kid or not, but it would of been nice to keep it in to reinforce the mother thing with Newt.

Also, i really love the automated gun sequence in the extended cut. First time i saw it at 14 i really thought 'oh god they are fucked'

Just watched t2 for the first time since like 2010, and I thought about some things I hadn't before. Why did the t1000 look shocked when arnie shot the grenade into it + when it accidentally ripped off its frozen arm?

Also why did it writhe around screaming in the molten metal? Did Skynet actually program that poor bastard to feel pain and fear?

You mean this scene:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=iusPorC4wZE
Was the entire scene cut in the theatric version? Cause I am quite fond of it. It shows Hadley's Hope before the Aliens attack and introduces a hand full of interesting bits:
- It establishes that someone send those workers to check out the location of the ship, which sets up the reveal that Burke is to blame
- It shows that it was a pretty busy place with many people, including kids, which makes the loss of life pack more of a punch
- We get a bit of a glimpse into Weyland Yutani's corporate culture ("It takes two weeks to get an answer out here and the answer is 'Don't ask'!"), that entire exchange fleshes out the setting a lot
- It establishes that kids play in the airducts, which helps explain how Newt could hide there for so long

And I don't think the movie loses that much in exchange when the scene is put into the movie tbh. The audience knows the reason for the communication blackout and that there's going to be aliens in Hadley's Hope with or without this scene, so it's not like the Marines going there and not finding anyone is that big of a surprise anyway and the scene where they arrive is still pretty intense, cause you don't know if they'll get attacked or what they'll find. And I feel the empty, desolate state of that settlement very well contrasts with the scene earlier with the kids in the corridor.
Well, I've seen Aliens before Alien as a kid so I had no clue what was coming, most people ho were born after the first one came out saw Cameron's movie first.
The lack of that scene made act 1 a lot scarier and when the aliens attacked for the first time, it had impact.
Also, we get pretty much told all the info from the opening scene throughout the movie so we don't need it, at least I don't think we do, the studio shared my thoughts on that :)
It's nice as a bonus scene like that one in Terminator 3 where you see the soldier that the T-800 was made after and Arnold doing a cheesy southern accent.
See, I think there could be a good Terminator sequel set after Judgement Day, but it would require some liberties. For instance, ignore everything after T3, which was a serviceable film that just had some really bad shit thrown in. I liked the concept of the Terminator being sent back to drag him to the bunker where he survives, but that's about it. Retcon some shit and leave out the craptastic parts.
Now, as for a sequel set in the future when the machines and humanity are trying to murder each other, what if we see a new chapter in the war? Set after all the times they sent back a Terminator to protect John or get him to the bunker, the knowledge of reprogramming Terminators to fight for humanity is actively being used against the machines as humanity manages to capture one of their production facilities and make robots that fight for our side.
Maybe I've said it on KF before but The Terminator is a slasher movie,
The first one plays out very much like the first 2 Halloween movies.
Sarah Connor is Laurie Strode, Kyle Reese is Dr Loomis, the Terminator is Michael Myers.
T2 is still horror even though there's more action but T-1000 is a horror movie villain and his kills are slasher kills.
All the Cyberdyne and future war stuff is just something to raise the stakes and give the movie a gimmick, it's the looming threat, not the actual movie.
The sci fi elements could be removed and replaced with a zombie murdering people instead of a robot and it would work just fine, the effects would be different and a few lines of dialogue but the entire thing could play out in the same exact way.
That's why when they do focus on the sci fi aspects, the movies don't work.
T3 is the first one that dropped the horror and it failed.

I think that a good sequel needs 3 things:
1. It has to be scary (that's the most important thing)
2. An unstoppable killer has to be chasing our heroes
3. You can't show a Terminator killed on screen until the very end (in fact, show multiple times how it can't be killed and it just keeps coming after it's target)

Hey, have any of you guys checked out the Terminator Resistance video game? As far as I'm concerned, it is the true sequel that the franchise deserves, not Dark Fate, as it is far more respectful of the characters and universe, alongside being made by people who clearly love the series, packing it full of fanservice and the like. In general, it delivers the Future War we have always wanted, and also does justice to characters like John Connor. That, and it has one of the best renditions of the iconic theme tune as well.

I've posted a few months ago that the game is actually pretty good, and despite the lower budget, a labor of love. Many reviews on Steam highlight it as a spiritual successor to T2. I'll be checking it out one of these days.

In the meantime,

I've always wanted to have a 1:1 scale T-800 head, it'd be a great prop.

Hey everyone,

So I wrote off Terminator Dark Fate as woke excrement that is just not worth my time. But I have since learned off the storyline about "Carl, the Terminator." I have watched many of the clips featuring Arnold as "Carl" and the premise is so absurd, I am wondering if I should watch it (as resistant viewing) just to be able to articulate just how culturally and morally bankrupt Hollywood is. Are the Carl Clips from youtube enough or do I gain inisght in how utterly terrible this is by watching it.

I recently rewatched T2 and Terminator for nostalgia purposes. Hollywood just cannot make movies like that any more, and I have to think that even Hollywood will run out of power and money, as dumbed down as most people are.
On my rewatch of the original Terminator, no way in hell that machine, should it have fulfilled its mission, would have decades to think about the purpose of life and come to regret assasinating Sarah.
In addtion to Carl clips I did watch this recap:

They were detained by border patrol to add some social commentary about how evil Trump is. For the love of Christ....

Admittedly I don't want to watch Dark Fate again to confirm, but wasn't there a line about Carl managing to be in a relationship for all that time because he was never intimate? Even if they didn't sleep together, wouldn't the fact your partner never eats, drinks, sleeps, uses the bathroom and weighs several times more than a normal person raise a few eyebrows?

Don't waste your time.

Terminator is the ultimate "should have stopped at number 2" movie franchise, even the later Alien films have more value.

Only T3 managed to be any decent but it's still overall a pointless movie that undoes the point of 2's ending which is "the future isn't written", Salvation was hot garbage and I never even bothered to watch any more since.

Remember, Cameron wanted to stop at 2 and originally intended to have an epilogue that flat out made it clear the story was over, say what you will about James Cameron but if he intended the story to be done after 2 then it was done.

I haven't seen Dark Fate or Genisys but 5 still looks worse. Dark Fate looks woke and spiteful, but Geniysys looks retarded as fuck.

Última edición:
in Terminator General-ing
online bro ran T2 hyperomega edition
had the usual "I like the world building, don't so much like the stalling the movie sporadically" I came to know from Aliens SuperDoublePlus Cut
I was aware of most of the scenes but hadn't seen most of them in practice, tbh hadn't even really watched T2 at all for probably twenty years
>now he fights his battles in the senate
okay fuck all Cameron cuts up their stupid ass forever
I got the idea of going back to the playground and that was cool but that line alone is so massively fucking stupid compared to something more open ended like John hoisting his kid up and then "now he's got a very different battle to worry about lololol [sitcom laugh track]" would have been better than that shit

the theatrical version of "the endless highway ahead" or whatever was waaaaaaaaaaay better

The objectively cheesy "if a machine can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too" line is in both endings, so I think I prefer the one that would have cleanly ended the franchise with no more bullshit sequels.

yeah it's a tough balance, the theatrical ending is less saccharine, but the directors cut ending means AND THEN THERE WAS NEVER ANY MORE TERMINATOR MOVIES

There really never was supposed to be. The only reason Arnold keeps doing them is because they keep throwing more and more money and jets at him. The whole reason he asked for a Gulfstream IV for 3 is because he thought they wouldn't do it and that'd be the end of it. He even asked for Cameron's blessing and he told Arnold to take them to the cleaners.

Makes sense. If they’re gonna fuck with the franchise, you might as well have them burn money on you to do so.
