This game should have never had any items. People who are against garbage in this game but let shit like the schadenfreude pass because it's fitting of muh heckin' tone n sheit are fine with their jewish microtransaction niggerhell as long as the colors are muted and it's heckin' 1950s spytech or something. The same goes for weapons of course except even more so since they affect gameplay much more significantly than jewish excrement on someone's head. Almost every weapon carries some kind of a deep flaw with it whether it's simply overshadowing stock or throwing a wrench into the overall balance of the game, causing an entangled mess of different problems. Take for example the razorback and how it causes a butterfly effect making sniper much more oppressive (because spy is severely handicapped against him) which in turn causes entire maps to be designed differently in order to accomodate his new oppressive presence. Now think about weapons which completely dilute each class's role, like scout being able to extinguish his teammates and reveal invisible spies, or engineer being able to essentially airblast incoming projectiles (the short circuit). This heavily takes away from the teamwork aspect of the game by allowing individual players to fulfill other players' roles as well as making the overall design of the game objectively less coherent.
You can point fingers at ancient weapons like the direct hit as an example of an exception but even they aren't without guilt - remember how engineer was given the wrangler to encompass for numerous build spots being made no longer viable and his buildings easily being easily torn apart? Now it's one of the most if not the most complained about unlockable weapon in the entire game, which in turn causes even more maps to be designed differently, spy being buffed to help him deal with indestructible sentry guns (which makes new players even more oppressed, since they can't deal with spies), etc...
The equalizer? No reason to use the shovel anymore. Why even keep the shovel in the game? Just replace it with the equalizer at that point. But of course you cannot do that because then the game would be even more of a hodgepodge mess with special abilities as a default experience - something straight out of league of legends, not to even mention new players' confusion. Of course the alternative of forcing new players into using inferior weaponry isn't any better, see above.
The takeaway here is that TF2 was fundamentally designed from the ground up with the stock weapons and the hatless look of each mercenary, and this design left no room for any kind of extension to it, which is proven by the long-standing absolute fucking mess of balancing this game endures, and the endless discussion around it's art-style and what "fits" the game and what doesn't - the fact even a single question arises whether something is fitting or not, is proof that it fucking isn't. There is simply no way around this fundamental obstacle, unlockable weapons, hats, skins, taunts, etc... never have and never will work for TF2. The game may be fun regardless of how much of an incoherent garbage with no style it is but it does not change this fact. And at the end of the day, the reason why TF2 was and is being ruined is this very mindset that "It's fun".

Autistic but I kinda agree with some of it. Why use the stock shovel when the market gardener exists? I wish there was more stock only servers, and even though goldrush had mixed reviews the day it dropped, EVERYONE was using stock was really damn fun. I wish there more than like 1 active stock tf2 server, or some sort of 2007 mod that isn't a scam because I would want to play that.

the market is a sidegrade not an upgrade, not everyone is capable and/or skilled-willing enough to land consistent markets to play this game
and this is ignoring the everpresent post-ji balancing that fucked the noob-friendly options like the B.A.S.E because some dilating tranny couldn't accept the existence of unskilled rocket jumpers

except they did, you have a right to complain that the means to obtain these is predatory and unfriendly to new players, which is true and there's no ifs to that

but that's where it stops, unlocks allow different approaches that wouldn't be possible otherwise, be it as a crutch for less skilled players or be as a busted tool for skilled players everyone had (and yes had, JI balancing still fucked a lot of fun options) an option to express themselves while playing this game because there was one important bit that i'm seriously thinking people forgot

you're playing to have fun, not to win.

I agree! The market garden, like the airstrike, requires you to actually be competent at rocket jumping to use effectively. However I disagree that it's a sidegrade not an upgrade. I think that it is an upgrade, because once you do get skilled with the rocket jumping, the guaranteed crits are just so potent and consistent that a really good soldier will be able to enter most engagements with a 195 melee if he chooses to. I consider it an upgrade because past 100 hours in-game, you should at least be familiar with the idea of rocket jumping, and it's going to be wayy more effective than the shovel ever could be in a real game.

still a side-grade due to it being centered on player behavior, if you're completely efficient with it then yes, it would be the strongest melee soldier has
but in practice people are not efficient (nor they should be, refer to playing for fun) and the amount of effort required to make it a complete upgrade over the situation i talked about is not only gargantuan, but it can simply be nullified by the infinite jank of this game or a simple random crit by anyone else, not that you should be discouraged from getting good at it though

It’s funny cuz solarshill is like the polar opposite to Zesty to point it’s like they’re destined to be enemies like yin and yang. Zesty hates comptards? Well Solar loooves competitive and thinks the game still isnt competitive enough! Zesty hates the trannie emporium? Solar sez suck the girldick and buy the meme hat, faggot! If zesty ever suddenly became a demoknight main, solar would retire and become a Natasha heavy.

He also to this day refuses to apologise for calling people faggots in the slurs.tf archives, and will tie himself in knots to avoid taking responsibility. It’s the best way to counter when he starts um akshully’ing about casual.

I find it hilarious that its been over a year now and we still don't have the promised MvM update. When they first announced it, I didn't believe for a stinking second that it would be out around Halloween.

I'd like to imagine Valve read a lot of the comments after they announced it, and then realized that yet another low-effort slop dump wouldn't cut it this time.

If we don't hear anything in the next 6 months, I'm going to assume that the update is dead internally.

The nerfing of the Base Jumper and Ambassador was just because a few goobers wanted to tilt their fingers on the game's balance for ego reasons
 
Wouldn't an SDK mod that's just TF2 with quickplay work?
apply brain for a minute, what do you think the core of 2014-ish quickplay is?
servers, qplay at its core was just an easy-to-use server browser and it was all focused on the always available valve servers, how would that be managed?
and we're not even talking of the server-side cvars
