People rarely take into account the feelings and mental health of the medical professionals who have to care for babies and children who are, for lack of a better term, incompatible with life. I can't find the case now (and it wasn't Jahi), but there was a little girl in California who's family is insisting on keeping her alive, even though for all intents & purposes, they should have let her go a long time ago. The child screams every time she's touched and the nurses, who took a vow to heal and not to hurt, feel they are just torturing this poor child doing basic care and maintenance, like changing her diaper and her IVS, etc. The say that they understand that sometimes they have to 'hurt' or cause a patient pain, but with the knowledge that the ultimate end results is to heal the patient....with this child, they feel like they are just causing this poor child pain unnecessarily. There are nurses who refuse to work with the child because of how damaging it has been to their own mental health. Of course the mother is taking it to court, saying her child communicates with her, etc. But she is not the one subjected to the mental anguish of caring for this child.

Okay, sorry, rant over.

To me, if there is no hope of improvement then why not turn the machine off and let the poor thing go?

Could be some sort of allergic reaction. Second pic looks kinda like a rash on her cheek. If it wasn't on her chin I'd suggest her mom is putting makeup on her like Jaxon's mom did to him, to make him look healthier. But it's on her chin, so, allergies or rash.

That said it's nowhere near as bad as Fathering Autism or the other horrorcow parents who are constantly exploiting and abusing their disabled kids.

Jani and Bodhi's parents are horrifying with chemically lobotomizing their kids for attention. Stuff like that is way worse than making a video about a kid with a rare syndrome. But it's all a bit questionable to me just because it's so trendy to parade your disable child out on the internet.

I agree SBSK guy is patronizing, but at least he is trying to do some good bringing awareness to different syndromes. And the kids aren’t usually potatoes like Luna. Luna and Paisley look terrified and uncomfortable 24/7 and neither have a quality of life. And then you have people like Gwen whose dr was being real with her and told her the kids aren’t likely to survive, but she took it as a personal FU and sent the doctor letters every year saying “look, my kids are alive!”. Yeah, alive, but not living and still terminal regardless. They suffered their whole lives because of assholes like Gwen, who also wasted so many resources on the spuds. Pt and ot is going to do jack shit when the prognosis is poor.

Maybe it’s just because it really gets to me the parents of these kids who personally whore them out that makes SBSK look good in comparison, but I will admit he’s a charming guy (no homo) and even if he’s not genuinely interested in these kids, he’s holding conversations with them. At least he’s not pointing a camera in their face while they go into shock, posting it on Snapchat and calling that tragedy a miracle.

Luna’s mother said a few weeks/months back that she’d been successfully weaned off her pain meds, like this was evidence that she shunt was working and she was healing.

How exactly she’s so sure that her daughter isn’t in pain I don’t know, but she gives her crystals and reiki so I guess that’s something?

I think so. I know women have died from sepsis because they were unable to abort dead/dying fetuses. It's interesting she mentions they had to use methods that went along with her birth plan.

They loved this child and hurt no one. I'm thankful they didn't demand the baby be put on a vent and kept alive when it still had a beating heart. If she wants to risk sepsis to carry a dead child with anencephaly, it's stupid and dangerous, but my heart still hurts for her.

Not the placenta, the amniotic sac/uterus keeps it all contained.

There have been numerous cases of fetal skeletons being found inside the bodies of old women, which is horrifying (and rare) but shows the extent to which a woman’s body can be protected from infection, as long as nothing enters the bloodstream. The same applies to twin pregnancy where one baby dies - it’s possible to continue with the pregnancy in the hope that the other twin will be OK (obviously depends on what kind of twin pregnancy it is - a fraternal twin with no shared placenta/sac has the best chance).
