Another update on Save Bobby. The children’s hospital has agreed to not take him off the machines tomorrow at noon. The family’s lawyer and the hospital’s lawyer are working on a contract.

The lawyer and the Facebook group has told everyone to stop harassing the hospital, no more protests, and stop with conspiracies. The family’s lawyer hopes to get one more week

Personally, I think hospital is crazy if they give them one more week. It appears that every medical facility in the US, and well as some out of the US, are getting calls by supporters who are trying to get Bobby admitted.

something that bothers me about articles like this is how they always say "save" in the title, even though they acknowledge that the patient is brain dead. there's nothing to save besides maybe some organs to donate to people that could actually use them.

Given what I've heard about US medicine and its eye-watering costs, I would imagine keeping someone on life support for weeks/months/years will make them a hell of a lot more money than a single black market organ trade might at this point. How many people would you have to pay off in a busy hospital to even cover that shit up anyway? The costs would be astronomical, hardly worth the effort.

Actual illegal organ trafficking is pretty common worldwide - within Europe there was the Kosovo organ scandal; and the more recent trafficking of children from Turkey into the EU as 'unaccompanied minors' facilitated by Greek diplomats based in Istanbul. Not to mention the Chinese state routine harvesting of organs from prisoners. Peasants being paid pittances for kidneys in India. With undocumented populations on the move due to conflict, there are more opportunities than ever for traffickers to cash in on the trade without getting caught.

Respectable hospitals don't need to engage in complex conspiracies based around beloved brain damaged children who inevitably become focal points for activist loons to make vast sums of money - in fact it will make more keeping those kids alive over time. The black market doesn't need to engage in such contrived public shenanigans either when it can simply pay poor people for them or simply totally disappear and kill vulberable individuals for what they need. As a UN paper on humkan trafficking for the purpose of organ removal points out, illegal activities damage public of confidence in organ donation systems, so it makes little sense for entire hospitals to engage in the kind of shenanigans that are being suggested here by people with clear agendas and crackpot medical theories regarding brain death.

Most are somewhere in between but there are also cultural factors at work that i think increasingly encourage this kind of selfish, graphic emotional display and delusional loser mentality where kids are concerned.

It betrays a complete weakness of character, a stupidity, and an inability to deal with the reality of life, which includes accepting death is coming to each and every single one of us, with no guarantee where or when. The only thing we actually control is how we deal with it. They choose to deal with it by accusing others of mass conspiracy and criminality, mocking people's medical educations and trying to besmirch their profession, asking for and hogging medical resources, shamelessly e-begging, acting like a rank cunt in public and other forms of tomfoolery that should make anyone with a shred of self-respect cringe. They're the kind of fuckers who make family funeral sall about themselves by throwing themselves at the coffin and howling instead of actually paying respects like a dignified human being who actually wants to remember who the dead person was. I do agree with some of your points here. While I don't think that wanting your child to live, and desperately hoping for it against the obvious facts is 'a weakness of character' so much as it is a sad delusion that you will eventually overcome, I do agree that once you get to the point of aggressive sperging out and accusations of foul play, or the sort of selfish grandstanding on display here, that it's a problem. But I also don't believe that, as was the case with one funeral I attended, a father trying and failing to maintain his composure as the body of his six-year-old son was laid to rest is a 'flaw of character'.

The family’s lawyer just posted minutes ago. He was able to get a judge to sign a motion which prevents the hospital from disconnecting life support until after the hearing on Tuesday.

I wonder if the hospital regrets not disconnecting at noon now.

The supporters of the family have been flooding the phones and inboxes of politicians all day. There are actual posts now where the offices of Michigan senators have asked people to please stop. They say they can’t do anything and supporters should speak with the Attorney General instead. I’m sure the office of the AG is grateful.

Nah, it's not wanting your child to live that is the weakness. It's fleeing from the truth that they cannot, raising a dumb sperg army of hysterics and crackpot religious creepers to back them up. The stronger character can accept the truth and move forwards. The weak person cannot.

These are parents told the truth about their child's prospects, usually as sensitively as possible, by people who deal with the grim reality of brain damage and death every day. Instead of respecting that, they choose to retreat into an aggressively stupid and ludicrous personal fantasy instead of dealing with the hard truth and the grief that comes with it. An strong or at least relatively mature adult deals with reality. however hard that may be, and I'm not arguing this stuff isn't hard. A weak person simply retreats into one fantasyland or another to avoid all the hard stuff.

Likewise, it's not breaking down at a funeral, it's hijacking them with personal histrionics of the kind that are specifically designed to direct attention to themselves.
