No there's not. They are removing everything great about the game to make themselves feel better about themselves.
How much could I get for a first printing, unedited version of Volo's Guide?
Speaking just to the stat blocks (fuck the new 30 new flavors of monster races that won't matter except for windows dressing as you tell your story of how oppressed the gays are because racial feats are bigotry and stat boosts are violence and racial traits oppress black & red bodies) and granted I'm doing a lot of extrapolation from one sample BUT...
New Shit runs a little cleaner and reads better; DM doesn't have to maintain spell lists, spell selection is varied but small enough you could get quick descriptor onto an index card, and everything is Once-a-day, recharge, or at will. Since the few times I run 5e its one shots/megadungeons, the stat blocks look easier to run and like they would require less prep and brain-space when I'm running.
That said, you're taking 4e monster mechanics and dropping it into 5e and I'm not at all sure that will splice. 4e was already pushing it with monsters being built different than players, but the players were built around the same general system & action economy. That's vastly different for 5e where players have a less singular-combat focus build process. And they are introducing stuff that Player builds weren't balanced against; i.e. I don't think Monster powers recharged until now.
This seems more like having a GM tell the players build with the 3.5 PB and running stock monsters from 4e MM. Its also taking an already sort of soulless system and making it even more soulless. It also makes it harder to tune caster difficulty by giving/removing spell slots, etc.
Re: Money for uncucked books, looks like they aren't making any changes to Volo's - it will continue to be printed with "problematic" content included. They are reissuing the cucked version as Monsters of the Multiverse to both move more books and make it easier for their snowflakes to just say "Volo's is banned from the safe space of this table. Prememptive X card on anything from there. Educate yourself on racial injustice and do better."
Same thing they did with Curse of Strahd (the new Ravenloft) - Wizards published errata but didn't update the printer files. The "updated" edition is the Curse of Strahd ReVamped - that contains all he Diversity & Inclusion updates. But if you buy Curse of Strahd from the bookstore doesn't matter if its 1st printing or one just off the truck, its 100% the same.
I don't know if that translates to (legitimate) digital editions. (
No, this is one of the very few times calling something freakshit is less autistic than the thing being complained about. It's also a rare case where it safely applies. Even I have standards, and a forced meme by /tg retards who do rapehobo games unironically and who tard out at elves is less cringe that that fucking shit. This smug garbage is genuine freakshit.
Also this is them smugly assuming that this will work. And while it might in hype and in Critical Role idiots using it; they ain't gonna pay for it since it ain't on Kickstarter.
Speaking of Kickstarter, I ran a game of that Jewish Deli RPG from Doikayt. It's so far the first and only PbtA game I've seen that I like, and that's because it has strong "Everyone's John" energy to it.
I think it might work for them; its big
FE: Just confirmed, I don't see Monsters of the Multiverse available for preorder anywhere EXCEPT for the box set. That'll probably be the case for a while.
You are right though, they missed their boat putting it on Kickstarter. Hell, I can't believe they didn't kickstart Strixhaven. They've have gotten so much trannygeld for Faggot Hogwartz.
