OP, are you sure you're using "sympathy" the right way here?

Sympathy requires you to empathize with someone, and I think anyone who empathizes with Portobella instead of, well, pretty much any documented autistic lolcow on here that isn't out there abusing hamsters and LARPing as what they think Anonymous is, might need to actually get off the internet and go to therapy, or at least have a long hard look at why they empathize and have sympathy for someone.

Reminder, "pity" is that feeling you get when you see something bang itself into a window over and over until it dies without ever realizing it was destroying itself, and it's fine to feel that for monstrous assholes like ILJ. To me and my armchair it kinda sounds like you're projecting yourself a little, stop anthropomorphizing the bioluminescent myconid.

You can be pissed at all the moralfaggotry and borderline poo-touching going on in this board, though. I think everyone agrees with you on that one.

Also reminder that people who get sexually abused don't turn into ILJ, becoming a shitstain like ILJ after being abused means that they know exactly what abuse feels like and they consciously choose to abuse others to make themselves feel better because they can't be assed to fix themselves.

I went through your posts about what could be signs of her having been sexually abused, however, there's something to consider which is that antisocial personality disorder as well as others also cause those behaviors.

Quite possibly. I'm also possibly being guilty of somewhat kicking the blame onto her parents, but I made no bones about this being a speculation thread, speculating what might have caused ILJ to turn out this way and speculating if this means she should be shown any sympathy.

I do think this is a worthwhile debate to be had, and it has certainly reconnected me to the outrage about ILJ which had faded a little when I considered she might be an abuse victim.

Everyone deserves some degree of empathy, in the form of basic human rights.

However, sympathy is really a hard pill to sell here. It's one thing to know about her boiling hamsters alive, but it's another thing to actually visualize and hear it happening. Imagining someone laugh in glee as a creature with a similar nervous, pain, system as ours would be chilling to any normal person. Sympathy isn't really needed for her.
 
She's a villain.

If it turns out that daddy fucked her, and she is the product of childhood trauma, then maybe I will be more sympathetic when she is locked up in some mental institution. Or when she is older, had been through tons of therapy, and sees the errors of her past ways. I guess I'm a sucker for redemption arcs.

But right now she's just an evil cunt. Maybe that's all she is. Maybe her parents tried their best, and despite that she turned out to be a vile person in every sense of the word. She's nasty inside and out. Which is also why I don't understand people simping for her. Like the smell alone should put you off. Women can and do stink if they have poor hygiene. How can you imagine sex would be enjoyable when it smells like warm leather, rotten fish, vinegar and mold when you're near her cooch?

It seems like you're arguing from a place of hope- hoping that there is some rational explanation, some cause and effect, some excuse for why she is that way. That is definitely understandable IMO. But that is emotion-driving thinking. If you take a step back and look at what we know vs. what we hypothesize and recognize that these two categories cannot and should not be weighed the same, you will understand why your take is flawed IMO.

Powerleveling and saying you're a parent just makes me assume that you're being biased about this simply because of some underlying desire to believe that someone has to be mistreated in order to be a piece of shit. I'd have to argue that that is an optimistic take. Sometimes it is the people that are afforded every opportunity that turn out like monsters. A good apple can have a bad seed. Tabula rasa is an outdated, disproven, and overly optimistic belief.

Sorry if I'm off base there, but that is how I perceived it.
 
I wouldn't be surprised to find there's no sob story and she's always been a sadistic little shit. She's just such an overwhelmingly evil person. She tortures animals, sexually assaults women and purposely torments even her closest friends. She sat on that voice clip for a while*, knowing full well that Barb was being raped. She's fucking disgusting. Fuck her and her glowie dad.

That's a really interesting point, although I would (quite possibly incorrectly) used the words the other way around, as in I'm empathetic with the hamster, I can imagine its pain, fear, and suffering and to a degree feel an echo of those horrifying and sickening emotions when I consider the event, but I'm (possibly, if speculations turn out to be true) somewhat sympathetic to ILJ because I understand to have feeling like she had you (probably) have to be badly damaged, and that damage (probably) came in childhood.

There is no consensus on whether sociopathy is nature or nurture. A lot of evidence points to nature, so I don't know how much childhood plays a part. Even if she was diddled, which there is absolutely no evidence of.

Once again Bella having shit parents is speculation based on supposed red flags. For arguments sake let's say her parents are shit. So what? Lots of people have shit parents and don't end up boiling hamsters or raping their mom. Lots of people are molested and don't end up boiling animals. Personal accountibility is a thing. Yeah 19-20 year olds are dumb, but they're legally able to vote, live alone, get married, and own firearms.

I don't blame you for having sympathy. You seem like a kind hearted person who looks for the best in people, even if there's none there. Hell I wish I was capable of doing that, but I'm not. You need to understand that not everyone can.
 
I feel "sympathy" in that I think most of the really hideous claims about her are exaggerated or mostly the result of her own bullshit tall tales being taken more seriously than they should be. That said she's clearly an asshole, at the very least. One of those people who seems to enjoy making other people feel awful and uncomfortable. Reading the discord logs it's obvious she's a tryhard edgelord who gets off on bringing out the worst in people. She has little empathy for others even at her best. I don't think she killed her dog, but she definitely harassed a trans student and then basically laughed when they committed suicide. That's just straight up fucked up.
