As someone who was about the same age as the kids when this supposedly takes place, I can 100% tell you that scene was utter bullshit. I was a theater kid AND in the alternative music scene and I can promise you, the term "in the closet" existed for a reason. It was rare for a person to come out and immediately be embraced by everyone around them, young and old, ESPECIALLY their family. That whole scene was obviously written by someone whose birth year begins with a 2.

Most people in 1987 thought gay=AIDS or at least potential AIDS, even if you were not a rabid homophobe.

Nancy and Jonathan should’ve died and be put out of their (and our) misery. Too many near miss deaths, too many cop-outs, too much shit level exposition dialogue for the phone scrollers.

I had a couple of gay roommates back in the early 90s and I remember them being skittish about not sharing toothbrushes for fear of AIDS.

Two things I have to mention. Apparently there are aspects from the play that carry over to the show that explain certain plot points, but they do not explain these aspects in any way. For example, the scene of Henry caving a guy's head in was explained in the play, but in the show it just happens and no explanation is provided. So basically we have a situation where the people who have seen the play understand all this background knowledge and none of it makes sense to the people just watching the play. Also, apparently the finale lifts heavily from the play so the main gist of it got spoiled a long time ago. I honestly don't know how it's possible to be this incompetent.
Also they mention that between the dimensions is a completely empty void. How I interpret it is no electromagnetic field, no spacetime (meaning no distance, time, motion) so there is no way for light to transmit there. Here I present to you exhibit A: Steve's BMW in the void with its lights blasting

Supposedly, the thing that happens that "changes" Henry is after he kills the guy...when he opens the metal case.
From the stage play, that guy was a Russian spy who was working undercover for Brennan's team. He ends up stealing some of their tech and escaping. Now, from what I hear about the stage play, the spy hides it in a cave in Nevada where Henry innocently stumbles upon it. However, in the show, it appears that the spy falls through the ground into the cave system, hurts himself, when Henry eventually stumbles upon him. I think they built that scene around him getting shot through the hand and shot at again gave him the mental motivation and moral justification to turn that dude's head into meatloaf. Regardless, he still is shown getting ready to open the case when the shot panned away to follow Max and Holly.
We will probably find out what's in the case in the finale.

I think the main point they are trying to establish in S5 regarding Henry is that, unlike the impression given in S4, Henry was not "born evil". He was a normal "All American Boy Scout" until whatever is in that box fucked him up.

And yet this is how 'they' rewrite history in their favor.

The writers seemingly forgot that they literally had Vecna blind Max at the end of the last season. She just wakes up like nothing happened. Holly was really dumb enough to trust that fat fuck Derek with anything. I also don't give a fuck about Holly whatsoever. Why the fuck did the goo and the room suddenly just stop with Nancy and Jonathan in it. The laziest example I can think of regarding a Deus Ex Machina since Supernatural. Nancy is also a high school student who can suddenly kill three trained military soldiers without hesitation or issue.

There is no way in Hell Kali isn't going to betray Eleven in some way. It's the only logical explanation as to why they decided to bring her back in the first place. Will coming out of the closet is supposed to be some big moment when Mike himself alluded to them knowing in the second season and they even had a big scene in season four about it as well. Literally everyone was terrified of gay people in the 80s. Absolute 2025 brained writers. They threw this scene in for ass pats and kudos.

The Duffer Brothers are going to be joining The Russo Brothers as hack writers who were one trick ponies that struck gold and can't replicate shit that is half as good ever again.

Final episode is going to resolve everything fairly quickly and the rest of the episode is going to be happy ending self-masturbatory bullshit.

I guaran-fucking-tee that at some point in the final episode there is going to be a line such as "Gee mike, will the world be ready to accept me as a gay?" "Stranger Things have happened Will, Stranger Things have happened"

Even the normies now have gay fatigue if he made that speech 10 years ago it would be celebrated everywhere and pushed down people’s throats, but now everyone hates this shit the more LGBT propaganda the more people start to hate them they ruined an interesting show like what the fuck are we supposed to do with this information will they have an oiled orgy battle with vecna and the one who dies of aids faster win.

This is the last episode and we don’t know if Mike is into him someone made a skit about it before lmao it was so obvious that the kid with a single mom that got molested will turn out gay the actor said it took them 12 hours to film that scene.

Why did they bring back that random indian chick will she scam vecna and that’s how they win

We used to be a proper nation.
