This makes it seem like the season is about to get even more ridiculous than the first part. My favorite part is around 55 second mark when Nancy pops out of a truck like she's Rambo or something and proceeds to unload on the military using an automatic assault rifle. How a teenage girl goes from working at a newspaper to that in like a season or two is beyond me, but knowing the show, it will probably be one of the more believable parts.

Ok....tinfoil time!

Regardless of whether you liked them or not, it looks like S1-S4 had some tie-in elements that gave indication of a common, if admittedly sloppy sometimes, overall thread/storyline. The 1st 4 seasons kindof lead into the next, which indicates to me that they kindof knew where they, the Duffers and their writers, were going with the story through the end of S5. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they always claimed there would only be 5 seasons, each separated by a year or two apart: S1=2016, S2=2017, S3=2019, S4=2020.

However, thanks to Covid, S4 didn't drop until 2022, which threw a huge monkey wrench into their plans. Prior to Covid, the show was immensely popular and everyone was talking about it. Then, the Apocalypse happened and the whole world went batshit crazy. Even though most of the writing was done, Covid slowed down the actual production and all the kids that were supposed to be 14-16 were now 16-18, and we all know what happens to teens' bodies during that range. Which is why they had to use a ton of CGI in post-prod for S4, not only to make El look like she was 8 years old for the lab flashback scenes, but also to make the kids look closer to what their character's actual ages were.
I might be wrong on that, but that's the theory I'm going with.

So, S4 drops 2 years late, 3 years after the end of S3...and the Duffers started to panic. They knew that S5 was not even in pre-prod yet, and if they just wrapped up the story with no big cliffhanger ending, it would fall on its face...the momentum had shifted.
So...they decided to maintain popular momentum while also rewriting history: Stranger Things - The First Shadow "Broadway" show that release in between S4 and S5. That way there was something to keep the show "relevant" in everyone's minds as well as provide them the ability to retcon new doors for future revenue.

Prediction #1 - There will be a spinoff series where they go back and tell Henry's story starting all the way back to the Philadelphia Experiment. Basically, take the stage show and milk 2-3 seasons out of it.
Prediction #2 - There are already rumors about Nancy being given her own show where she is a detective of sorts.
Prediction #3 - Based on what that trailer for Volume 2 shows, they are going to take advantage of the new multi-dimension thing and something is gonna get created around Max and Holly.

...show me those puzzle pieces.

I don't really see much of an overarching plot thread at all. Season 4 outright retconned Season 1 so they could shove Henry into Eleven's backstory not to mention actively regressing the characters. I think they only started having a concrete plan after season 3 was released which is also coincidentally when they started claiming that the show would only have 5 seasons. Sure there are bits and pieces which I think they probably planned long-term but the overall plot, no.

And regarding that trailer yeah, fuck the show for trying to make Nancy into some kind of mag-dumping Arnie wannabe. She was always kind of annoying but at least the early seasons also made a point to occasionally show her ego vastly outstripping her actual competence and her eating shit for it.

someone brought up time travel too. but i think you're mostly right, This is Netflix most iconic franchise now, the rest of the mid-2010s netflix originals are too spicy now. OITNB with its lesbian sex scenes is too raunchy now and Narcos and HoC have aged bad.

This is their only big franchise that hasn't been fucked up in any way, which is why its one of the few shows to get a 5th season. its the only show that isn't obvious cheap goyslop too, its not like they'll get the same watch numbers for emily in paris or virgin river or any of the other teen dramas out there.

even Wednesday completely lost all its hype. Netflix will keep churning out stranger things until it dies.

Did the "Escape From Camazotz" episode have a blinky shit warning for epileptics?
It needed one.

Watching the new episodes right now.

WOW. They actually don’t know what the fuck they’re doing and are just pulling shit out of their ass.

The Upside Down is just a wormhole.
This season has been pure schlock. I want to say they're doing it on purpose as a send up to the action and sci-fi movies of the time. But, I think they're just ready to end this and give everyone their hero moment.

Sperging warning!!!

For anyone still watching this show wondering whether they do a Will comes out as a fag scene, yes they did it. They did it in painstaking detail and for an obscenely long time. It might have been the cringiest, gayest, most insufferable shit I have seen on television in a while.

I don’t even have an issue with gays themselves, they for sure got the same rights as straights these days and I don’t care. Society even enables the mentally retarded among them such as drag queens reading to children and trannies roaming the streets searching for sports or bathrooms to crash, and the mass media doesn’t bat an eye. Why do we need more spotlighting on this stuff? This is the most accepting time in human history (at least in the 1st world) for queers, homos, fags, LGBT, or whatever the hell else they call themselves these days. Enough is enough.

P.S I hope Vecna ends up being just a pawn or taken over by the “mind flayer” entity because I am also sick of media today always having tragic backstory villains. I want something unapologetically evil and fucked up.

What a crock of shit.

I wrote a bunch of notes down while watching these new episodes, but I feel it's not even worth tearing into the plot. At least what I understand of it as it has gotten so convoluted and ridiculous I have a hard time making any sense of it half the time at this point. So they want to stop Vecna from destroying the world, but every time something goes wrong so they come out with a new plan that fails and so on. But now there's a straight up wormhole in the mix and they are going to blow up the wormhole? And somehow Will coming out in the weirdest way possible is somehow the key to victory? It's difficult to overstate how fucking weird that scene was and who thought it was a good writing in the first place.
Speaking of coming up with plans, I have noticed that every time there is one of these big group scenes it is edited in a way that it rapidly cuts to different characters and they each say one sentence or finish each other's sentences. As if every line was a different take because the actors couldn't remember their lines and then it was just edited together to look like a scene.
And there is some weird substance abuse stuff thrown in there that comes out of nowhere. Whatshername accuses Robin of being a drug addict and goes on a long speech about how it's bad to do drugs and that she needs to quit. Okay, that one I can kind of wrap my head around since apparently Robin has been acting weird and stole medication. However when Nancy and Jonathan think they are about to die and have their "here's what I don't like about you" heart to heart, Nancy says that she doesn't like when Jonathan is high (okay, makes sense since it has been established he's a pothead) but then he says he doesn't like when she's drunk yet the show hasn't previously indicated that Nancy even really drinks yet then it's made seem like she is a wino or something and has a drinking problem and then after that there's no mentions to it again so no big deal? All of this the dangers of substance abuse PSA comes completely out of nowhere and is then promptly forgotten about after 2 minutes.

The only thing I look forward to in the finale is the show ending and me hopefully never having to think about it ever again.

Ok...just wrapped up Vol 2 (EP4-7) and here are my thoughts:
- They are definitely ignoring S1-4 and relying solely on the new backstory from the stage show. So, knowing that makes Ep4-7 a bit easier to follow.
- At least they kept the bickering between the boys to a minimum, and Robin's idiotic dialogue was there, but didn't appear as out of place as in Vol 1.
- But, it is clear they are trying to drag as much screen time as possible this season to eek out 8 episodes. So much time wasted with characters "exploring their feelings". FFS....you are trying to stop the apocalypse, and NOW is when you need to go have a talk with your ginger girlfriend cause she "insists"?? Now is the time to come out to the entire fucking cast, so they can all give you hugs and asspats?? Nobody cares and it is irrelevant to the story at this point. Come out in S2 so it can be ingrained as part of the overall story, and not shoehorned into the 2nd to last episode for no apparent reason? Why they had to bring the "sister" from S1 where was literally in 2 episodes, only to make her integral to S5, but also waste a bunch of time having her "reconnect" with El, or whatever the fuck that was???? I think they are testing the waters for spin-off shows. Don't even get me started on Nancy and Jon's little love-fest while the world is melting around them.
- Writers still don't know how physics, guns, trucks, etc. actually work.
- It wasn't enough to physically "Mary Sue" Nancy, but now they have to mentally Mary Sue Dustin and Erica. I'm sorry, I don't care how autistic you are, no middle-school aged kids would have been taught or even be remotely aware of some of the advanced astro-physics. Hell, "A Brief History of Time" by Steven Hawkins wouldn't come out until another year in the show's time-line. The fact that Dustin just stumbles across Brenner's notebook and is immediately able to not only read it but understand it? Now, Kudos to whichever props-monkey designed the notebook...definitely brought back the DnD vibe as it looked more like a Wizard's spellbook than a physicist's notebook. But, once again, leave it to the writers to try to write dialogue around a subject they clearly know nothing about.
- Ok...actually a compliment: I like how they have redirected the main story back to some old-school DnD lore, but also incorporating it with some of the new retconned stuff they've done. So, even thought they are using "science-y" jargon to try to explain somethings, the writers who are actually competent put some of the story back on the tracks:

- Earth/Hawkins = Prime Material Plane
- Dimension X = The Abyssal Plane - "the birth place of the demons, a chaotic evil universe unto itself with uncountable layers of infinite variety connected haphazardly
- Upside Down = An in-show representation of what might happen when a "Gate" spell is cast with some form or permanency added to it.

This would explain how they were able to clear out the UD enough to build a whole-ass military base there. When El "banished" Henry through the wall in S4, she actually sent him to the Abyss. And only when Brenner's people got her to try to "locate" him, her powers created a permanent Gate to the Abyss, the Upside Down.

So....story is getting a little better.
Writing is still ass.
Yes Robin and Will, you're gay. Nobody cares.

At this point the only way that Kali's presence will be remotely tolerable is if the show reveals that she was working for the bad guys all along and deliberately mindfucking Eleven the whole time so she doesn't believe in herself. It's the only way that jeet bitch's constant gaslighting about Eleven needing to commit sudoku makes even the slightest bit of sense. Either that or they are just really bad at foreshadowing that Eleven is gonna die.

The wormhole concept is yet another example of the showrunners not having a concrete plan and just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Aside from not making any scientific sense (a theoretical wormhole is supposed to be a one-way route linking a black hole and a white hole whereas here it's basically just a giant pipe), it also contradicts what is established in the previous seasons by not only having the Upside Down be limited to a section of Hawkins (whereas previously it's shown as just being a fucked-up reflection of real world locations) but also having the red zone be explicitly a part of Vecna's mind dimension, separate from the rest of the Upside Down, despite both Max and Eleven previously managing to wander in there while in the Upside Down without needing to do anything special.

I'm not even going to get into all the fake-out near-deaths like Nancy and Jonathan (which still doesn't make sense, how did the white goo just suddenly solidify?) or Robin and company being saved by Mrs. Wheeler of all people (and again Mr. Wheeler might as well be chopped meat). Eleven managing to "banish" Henry to a dimension she didn't even know existed is still stupid and doesn't explain why it took Brenner forcing her to look for Henry (without actually telling her what she's looking for so how was that supposed to work but whatever, retcon) to actually create a bridge instead of it being created the moment she shoved Henry's ass out the window-wall into this "Abyss" dimension.

Nancy being a gun-toting expert is still stupid and I have no idea why the show is obsessed with tearing down Steve like the crack about him supposedly not knowing how to use guns even though HE LITERALLY USED ONE IN SEASON 3 THAT HE TOOK OFF A RUSSIAN SOLDIER. Also very predictably Holly's secret boy crush turns out to be the only black kid among the group. They could've at least switched it up and made him Japanese or something.

And finally, implying that Vecna showed Will some major scary stuff that he needs to confess to the rest and then it turning out that Henry just bullied him for liking cock was...LOL.
