It's basically Parasite Eve which is something I didn't know I wish I had more of.
Try Wicked Seed - it looks like a Unity Store asset flip, but it plays great, and the rough edges can be forgiven when you know it was a game made by a single guy.

As for demoslop, I've been eyeing a few titles:

Hark the Ghoul - looks like a neat immersive sim
Iron Blight - Russian first person RE clone, look okay, though the map design could use some work
RadCity - looks like an interesting "isometric" action/exploration game

I have my eye on Toxic Commando. A demo is a demo. If I'm not paying for it, I'll give it a try.
Is that the John Carpenter one? I would love a decent L4D-like that doesn't end with tide.
i saw this advertised on my steam page a long time ago and i was intrigued so i looked into it and apparently john carpenter is only doing the music for it and doesnt really have any involvement in it, im not a big john carpenter fan and im not gonna like moral fag about that one way or another but that all just seemed weird and gay to me and i completely lost interest in it

It's irritating that games journalists get a link two weeks ahead of the actual start and end up affecting the demo algorithm before the nextfest actually starts. Also holy shit there's a lot of friendslop this round.

All the hype for the Steam machine has died down, it is still the kind of system I'm looking to acquire despite there being no news yet.

I'm assuming the Steam engineers thought 8 GBs of ram is enough despite the consumers heavily disagreeing, so they'll have to hold out during the ram shortage.

Dverghold. Old school first person party based dungeon crawler. Developers are certified chuds.

ETA: more
Runeblight. Trooner shooter set in a low fantasy metroidvania world. Demo has been out for a couple of weeks.

Cralon. Spooky dungeon immy simmy.

The Secret of Weepstone. Dice based dungeon crawler with a unique hand drawn 80s fantasy aesthetic. Demo has been out for a while.

Queen's Domain. King's Field esque first person ARPG. Demo has been out for a while.

If you enjoy "gambleslop" games like Clover Pit and Luck Be A Landlord, suggest giving Scritchy Scratchy a try. It uses scratch tickets as the main theme and has plenty of mechanics that you're not just scratching them mindlessly. Very much worth a try.

Give Underkeep a try, another pretty good blobber I found during Next Fest.

I'm going to shill Boost Vector EX, a runner game that originated on Roblox but was rebuilt for a steam release. It's really freaking fun. Maps are windy with boost pads everywhere and it's all about going as quick as possible.

Also shilling Rollin' Rascal. It's a 3D Sonic game with a different skin and tighter controls.

It's time for summer and raise this thread from slumber.

Haven't had time to really try much, so I'll focus on one to get the ball rolling:
IRON NEST Heavy Turret Simulator

Kino, slow game about shelling. You'll commit attrocities and then shoot fireworks right after while a shellac record is playing in the background. Newspapers selling lightly used craters and pre-ventilated hats.

Well that Napoleonic Wars game Veterans was supposed to launch a demo ( I already played the invite test) but it seems the game has been taken down due to a DMCA notice.

Otherwise, I think I am going to take a look at Takeover 2,BRIGANDINE ABYSS, Rift Wizard 3. And whatever else piques my interest.

I've been enjoying Sprawl Zero's demo - cyberpunk FPS with a gravity gauntlet for range-picking up weapons, ridiculously busted bullet time and a gravity shield to AoE knockdown enemies by reflecting their own bullets back into them . While on the easy side it has sick music and sick gunplay and that's all I need.

Dust front RTS has recieved a demo. I'm not at all good or clever with RTS games but this felt pretty nice. Very cool aesthetic, very large scale lengthy battles in the skirmish. If I had issues it would be un-rebindable controls(you need to move your camera with the arrow keys), the UI scale being a bit off and not being able to resize it making it a bit difficult, and a weird angle on the max-zoom camera.

Hellslave 2 is a sequel to a game I somehow really liked in spite of it being functionally a very simple, I'd even say mobile game tier, dungeon crawler/rpg. It's more of the first Hellslave with the following notable changes
  • Basic magic attack no longer consumes MP and instead is just an alternate basic attack that deals magic damage.
  • Instead of consumable potions you get a mana/health crystal that you can smoke mid fight to restore them. These crystals are cooldown based.
  • Demon form is no longer an alternate buff form but instead a zero-time attack that you can use after you've killed X enemies. The attack can also be leveled up after grabbing floating blood orbs that you can find in dungeons.
  • You can wait to skip one game tick on the combat timeline. With this there is also a defensive stance you can take which lasts two game ticks and reduces damage by 65%. This adds another layer of thought to boss fights that isn't hoping you don't get crit or that you can out-dps them and I like it a lot especially since it means I can tank stuff until my healing/big damage spell can go off cooldown and it makes attacks that scale with enemy fatigue feel less random.
  • No more random encounters but instead you can physically move on the overworld(top down view) and choose which enemy parties to fight, with their levels and compositions available to you. I want to say this also means no more enemy reinforcements mid fights.
  • Clearing out a map of its overworld enemies gives you extra stat points to pick. I feel like this may lead to you snowballing even quicker than in the original game.
