I mean... That really is their only purpose; to give you that sense of comradery, which I always thought was nice. I really enjoyed Peppy, Falco, and Slippy in the N64 version. It's not much, but sometimes they will do things like hit a switch for you or Falco will shoot something like a meteor that'll give you a golden ring.

Maybe there should've been the option to fly with or without teammates instead. Like "solo mode" and "team mode" or something like it.

This 8 minute, probably made with AI, clip is probably better than any actual movie made by Square. I would watch a whole Chrono Trigger movie made like this in a second.

Maybe it is a good thing that Chrono Trigger has been largely overlooked. Though a well-made Chrono Trigger miniseries is my dream.

I remember being so excited for the Spirits Within only to be confused as to why the fuck it was about astronauts or space shit or whatever the fuck it was, I can't remember I just remember it had zero Final Fantasy stuff in it.

That's exactly its problem. Sakaguchi was too original for his own good. Advent Children was at least recognisable to people who'd played the games, and it was a sequel to the series' most popular entry. If Square had done that instead of Spirits Within, it probably would have sold.

I don't know why Square never tried harder with their animated stuff. I remember going and tracking down some Final Fantasy V anime just to watch some FF stuff and I don't really like anime. I'm sure if Square actually made a good show or movie based on one of their games, it would do well.

I mean, the remake is 1:1 to the original as far as gameplay and levels, isn't it? The only changes are to visuals and dialogue/story. So it's not like anyone who looked at it and finds it not worth their time and money can't fairly criticize it without playing it, since how it feels to play isn't the issue.

Anyway, what killed Final Fantasy was Sakaguchi having to fall on the sword for Spirits Within being a flop. Ironically, I think if they'd done Advent Children as the theatrical film, it probably would have done a lot better and Sakaguchi would have kept his job, even if I thought Advent Children was a shitty, derivative piece of garbage that just rehashes FFVII but shit (the Bahamut scene was cool, though)

Yeah, I'm not gonna watch that, dude. Cause it's like an hour long. But Sakaguchi only registered the trademark for Mistwalker in May 2001 and Spirits Within came out June/July 2001. You know a film is going to be a flop before it even releases, generally speaking. Because you've got previews and test audiences and all sorts of other stuff, and the costs for Spirits Within were running high and Square likely knew what they'd need to do to even break even on the film and they would have known, closer and closer to release, that it wasn't happening.

Spirits Within may not have been the only factor in Sakaguchi leaving, but it was a big part of it.

There's some substantial changes in certain levels (for better or worse) but more or less its pretty much the same game. And yes there has been criticism in regards to the player feedback feeling worse in comparison but that also might just be people who played the N64 version to death not being used to the new format.

Completed all the normal mode challenges, they weren't too bad for the most part but I was stuck on one in Area 6 for a while. The task where you have to take down all of the metal arms before the Gorgon teleports, but the window is so ridiculously tight for getting them all in one go and the zoomed in camera for that phase of the fight doesn't help at all. It was a little easier when I just ignored shooting the energy balls and let the shield close on its own, which also prevents it from hitting the later phase where it wastes a lot of time with the laser attack.

I wish all six tasks in a difficulty could be done in a single run of a stage on every level, would be a fun multiplayer banner reward for doing a perfect run of a stage. With how they're implemented you can cheese many of the tasks since you don't even need to finish the stage in order to save your progress on the checklist. It also only shows if you complete the task for the first time, so on subsequent playthroughs you can't see if you've hit the objectives you'd already cleared.

But speaking of unlockables, it's really annoying that it no longer shows the requirements after you've gotten them. Since Nintendo's never going to do an achievements system these sorts of in game features are the closest we're gonna have, and I want to know the context of all this trash I have and what I did to unlock them

This one was tricky for me too, but thankfully it wasn't a one-and-done sort of thing. You can try as many times as it takes so long as you're not progressing the fight.

Someone pointed out to me a while back that they severely fucked up the train boss' death cutscene. There's no fucking sound effects for the brakes in the "secret" ending where the train starts skidding with the brakes jammed on trying to avoid crashing. Seriously look up the boss fight lmao there's NOTHING and the weird fucking voice direction makes it all the more unintentionally funny. Forgot to bring it up whenever my last post was in here.

It really fucks with me how Andrew rarely if ever calls andross his uncle in the remake outside when he gets shot down. Doesn't sit with me right for a guy who's related to the guy that's starting shit to just call him "the emperor" constantly instead of "my uncle"
