Not necessarily. I remember games used to take about five years to develop even in the PS2/Gamecube era when devs were still competent.
I remember that was the exception, not the rule. Games could take 2-4 years, depending on the size and scope of the project. In this case, since it's a remake of a simple game, perhaps it was 2 years in production and no-one told the devs of the movie's art style for Fox. Plus I recall reading somewhere that the new release is aiming for an older audience by making the characters look gritty.
...Which makes James look goofy with his sunglasses inside his ship. Extra points for making the glasses as part of the visor.
Considering the disdain Starfox fans at large have towards female characters,
Didn't know that.
Doubly so considering there's what, 4-5 relevant female characters?
the chances of Illumination pulling that shit are low but not zero, specially if Nintendo doesn't put them on a tight leash.
It's still an all-ages movie, and the gay stuff is getting less and less tolerance these days. Plus they only see each other while fighting.
In fact, I wonder how the hypothetical movie would fill the space to make the full 2h/1 h 30 m duration since the game is meant to last a few hours/days at most (including travel). Downtime spent at the Great Fox plus Fox's early days in the academy, I guess.
Perhaps this would work better as a series. Then again, the Mario movies had a breakneck pacing with non-stop action, so the same could happen here.
Given how Illumination has made Peach pretty much the main character in the Mario movies, it is safe assume they will do the same with Starfox, if the movie is based on SF64, either Kat will get a much bigger role, or Myu and Fay will be part of the team from the get go, or maybe both.
Not only that, but Peach acted OOC and in a completely reckless way for a princess by essentially ditching her subjects to follow a stranger. It would have made more sense to have Peach ask Mario to do the search for her, or even assist her and thus have everyone leave the kingdom at the same time, but that would make too much sense.
I could see Myu and/or Fay having an inflated role if they're around. Maybe the girl exclusive from the comic if someone bothered to check that.
As for Krystal, i doubt she will appear, going by the game's canon, Krystal is 8 years younger than Fox, by the time of SF64 she would be a kid, at most she will appear in the post credits scene so she can appear in the sequel after a time-skip, just like in the games, as Adventures takes place 8 years after 64.
I think Nintendo is adjusting the timeline a bit with the '26 release, as Fox is 18 once again, brash and eager to prove himself. I don't recall being such a time gap between the first game and Adventures, but either way it doesn't matter here: Krystal will show up even if it's barely a cameo, as she's too famous to be ignored.
