When I had bowel surgery with zero complications I was on some primo shit for six weeks after. If she's been turned into a walking medical anti-miracle then she's going to be on a pill cocktail the likes of which we may not ever see again. If my synapses and mental faculties were fried by a mix of morphine, codeine, and muscle relaxants, she's going to be mush because she'll have had trycyclics, SNRIs and probably a bunch of psychotropics too from her regular, pre-surgery pill selection. I doubt she's lying. She's probably just still riding the wave of the post-op honeymoon they have where they all convince themselves these issues are temporary and the real penis is just round the corner. It's increasingly common in the general population (especially amongst women) and most studies show that it leads greater interdependence. Most prescribed anti-depressants inhibit the intake of opiates so people end up taking higher doses and the lack of relief results in a mental health breakthrough becoming even more remote. There's probably zero studies on post-op trans people specifically, due to the fact that even acknowledging a problem is a big no-no. You'd also have to be insane or planning career suicide to perform a study like that, if you could even get past the requirements to do so. Studies on the health of trans people are difficult to get going at the best of times because institutions get very careful about anything that goes into protected groups. They will turn them down as not being for the benefit of that group or being actively harmful because the litmus test of what is harmful to trans people can be as simple as something that doesn't immediately justify or validate their desires.

For context, the Swedish long-term follow up for transgender patients which showed such great outcomes as 8x the incidence of suicide attempts occured over a decade ago and no new major research even approaching the topic has since been attempted. To this day, the major authors still parrot the tired lines that SRS overall is positive ("only 3% of survivors officially detransition!"), and they still get abusive mail and are hated by certain groups of trans people for giving ammunition to those who want to ban/more strictly regulate/whatever else these procedures. If I was to hazard a guess at what such a study would reveal, it's probably a rate of opiate-antidepressent ab/use of 5 times plus of the general population with patients being weaned for far longer periods with far higher doses and probably close to almost zero positive end cases (being both weaned off opiates and having mental health breakthroughs resulting in a discontinuance of anti-depressants). Using Google-fu, the closest study I found to the topic mentioned "MTF", or "military treatment facilities", so it's probably a dead end area of research.
