Spider-Man into the Spiderverse

Can't we have normal Spider-Man stories anymore? You know, those about a loser young adult who needs to balance his life with college, a girlfriend, a job, all while maintaining his secret identity and fighting crime. Almost exactly what Spider-Man PS4 was. Maybe do what DC does and adapt comic stories into animated movies. Heck, that could even be done concurrently, with all the bank Spider-Man alone makes.

But nah, the major studios seem to be obsessed with turning Peter Parker and Miles Morales into multiverse police lmao

This is only like…the third time it’s been done. And this a direct sequel to the first one that did it.

At least in the movies, yeah

There's more of it in the games, comics, and TV shows, which is why I've gotten pretty tired of the trend at this point, plus, like I said, there's so much more they could do, either instead or concurrently. Insomniac was able to do two stellar Spider-Man games featuring the two main Spider-Men, and that didn't have any multiverse travel (outside the comics)

If they keep the Spider-verse multiverse battle thing going, it'll be all they do and everyone's gonna get burnt out and say the same thing, I'm just criticizing it when it's early lol

Look, I’m not saying that the multiverse angle won’t get worn out or that they should only focus on it, that would be stupid. I’m just pointing out that it seems kinda silly to complain about a spiderman movie focusing on the multiverse when it’s literally a sequel to the first Spiderverse film. Especially since we had 7 non-multiverse Spider-Man movies.

No, I counted the first movie, its two sequels, and No Way Home

In any case I already made my point clear, there have been a lot of Spider-Verse things in and out of film and there are many things they really could dedicate money to instead

What's happening with the MCU is directly Sony's fault, and only because the cartoon did so well. I initially fucking hated the idea of NWH before seeing the trailer and though I've warmed up to the idea since the trailer has dropped, I do hope it's a one and done novelty. Into The Spider-Verse was about as good as a manner of pulling that off and I'm holding out hope the live action movie is just a very elaborate means to an end in terms of slapping Peter Parker into that villains universe they're establishing without making him and out and out Time Squad character.

fwiw I agree 100%. I just expect (hope) this to be a weird phase for the character atm and not what they feel compelled to do every time.
 
Personally the original Spiderverse was exceptional, though I'm holding some reservations for these sequels.

Into the Spiderverse was so perfectly encapsulated (very much like Fury Road), and so they could really go anywhere plot-wise with these two sequels IMO. There are literally no loose ends beyond what was slapped onto the end of the movie.

The first movie was also perfectly singular in its art-direction (with Alberto Mielgo setting a lot of the tone), and while it offered glimpses into other universes, its primary setting in New York was the thing that kept everything glued together- I hope that we're not going to get artstyle whiplash jumping from universe to universe.

I haven't checked up on Miguel's adventures since the original 2099 run, was he always jacked as fuck and it just didn't stand out since he wasn't next to a gawky kid?

I wouldn't say he was particularly bigger than any other Spider-Man , so I think this was just something to help differentiate him more since he isn't just another alternate universe Peter Parker. But every guy was huge in the 90's so take that for what it is.

This can lead for some fun interaction though since if Miguel is from Miles future and Spider-Man was considered one of the greatest heroes who ever lived, he'd know how Miles legacy would play out. Also I want a Spidey 2099 and Lady Ock scene if only because the one in Shattered Dimensions was hilarious when he was steadily making her rage throughout that whole encounter by pretending to not give a shit about her inventions

Helps them avoid having any of those pesky White Spidermen around too, they have to rub the goyim's face in their replacement.
 
I am much more excited for this movie (or, rather, these movies) than I am for No Way Home ... And I say this as someone who just bought tickets for No Way Home. Gonna go see it on the 21st.

I am literally the "guy checking out the other girl" meme right now.

Not that many have been released so far, including games.

Shattered Dimensions, which started this trend, was done after Activision long lost their touch making Spider-Man games post-Spider-Man 2. Beenox was tasked with rejuvenating the series after its blunders, so the multiverse seemed like an effective way to draw in interest. It also lended itself to new forms of gameplay not in Spider-Man yet. After that, it seemed that Marvel comics grew a fondness for the idea and kept going with further stories.

Spider-Verse was a result of the continuation as it played to these new comics. It was probably also done because Sony animation was shit prior, and Spider-Man could help bolster the brand, but you cannot have the story be about Peter Parker because the MCU already covers that. This kinda seemed like a work around and a way to sell more tickets for a studio that always seems like it is close to death given its many blunders.

NWH was made because Spider-Man fanboys are cancer at this point and a bulk of the community has divided into circle jerks for their Spider-Man. People like Hi-Top Films are pretty good demonstrations of these fans as Hi-Top is a total Toby fanboy who hates modern Spider-Man and said he will not watch further films. This just feels like a method to drag his ass back to theaters through nostalgia.

Across The Spider-Verse is a sequel, nuff said.

In saying all this, I don’t mind the concept. Honestly, I wish a certain other superhero would try …ahem, ahem, Batman, ahem..ahem.. but it is a cool idea that lends itself to new possibilities when in the right hands. Spider-Verse is arguably the best or among the best Spider-Man movie and it did a lot to save Miles as a character.
 
Yeah, I always thought that Miles Morales was nothing more than "Black Peter Parker" in the comics, because the writers screwed up so badly with Peter Parker himself in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. Miles was a token when he was first created, and anyone who denies that is lying to themselves.

Into the Spider-Verse literally fixed everything that I thought was bad or boring about Miles Morales, especially his origin story. Miles became his own character because of that movie, and I'm actually invested in the character now.

Don't get me wrong, Peter Parker is Spider-Man, but the context that Miles is used in with these movies is ingenious. He works best when you put him in context with the multi-verse.

It's because Brian Michael Bendis is a hack and his creation had to improved by other writers because everything he made aside from his first couple issues of ultimate spiderman was trash, see his superman run for example
