From everything we have seen, yes.I've been out of the SS14 loop for some time 'till I saw ARMOK's stream today and his meme vid a few days ago. Is this just standard tranny crashout drama like all the others (relating to how it started, at least)? I saw the stuff related to the "auth DB" but I don't get it. Don't have time to 'tism over it.
Also want to know how reliable ARMOK+party are. I like his vids and the stream seemed decent, but some stuff related to his game is a bit goofy imo. Not image-destroying necessarily.
Hello everyone!
From the get-go, I will stress on the fact that this is not a hit-piece against PJB or remaining Wizard Den Team, this is not written as a pretext for a harassment nor this is written in any bad faith. I've had so much bad blood with PJB and their team on every imaginable level that I just feel obligated to tell my own story after nearly four year of direct confrontation with PJB and their team.
Anyway, first and foremost, I'd like to introduce myself.
I am ONIKS, also known as Scituzer2. In SS14, I've been White Dream project lead slash project manager slash lead designer for nearly four years. I've also been (by my own criteria) one of the key members of Einstein-Engines team and I was instrumental (again, by my own criteria) in the release of SS:B on Steam, alt-infrastructure of SS14. I am also a direct subject of two subsequent highest view count posts in the "Hub Administrative" section of SS14 forums, up to this day.
If you've never heard of White Dream in SS14, you're probably familiar with things that were developed there. Supermatter engine, Blood Cult, radial menus and many other stuff that have been widely-accepted on different forks and servers under AGPL license - these are all ports from White Dream when we were trying to port stuff from SS13.
White Dream also was a largest server network by sheer amount of players, back in the 2022-2023, or at least was largest Russian-speaking server network.
In SS13, I played from year 2012 and was an active community member of Animus Station (the one from where you've got all those cool servers like Lifeweb, Interbay, Ashen Sky, Fallout 14, you know these, right?) up until year 2018-2019.
I'd like this post to be a somewhat of a cautionary tale for both SS13 and SS14 players from the height of my experience and personal accomplishments.
So, with the recent news of PJB wrecking ""Official"" SS14, I'd like to reminiscent on their involvement with the wider, "non-Wizden" community.
Despite what I've laid out in the initial paragraph - it's going to be extremely hard not to step on the "possible harassment" territory, at least, in PJB's perspective. Let me start with exactly that.
"Harassment".
PJB's idea of "harassment" is extremely easy to understand - harassment is what someone considers to be unpleasant to hear. This principle is directly laid out in the Hub Rules as well, quote,
"Some guidance on what “harassment” constitutes: if somebody wants you to stop talking to or about them, you probably should."
Why this is important? Because this view on social interaction is what directly led to PJB's downfall, every single recent drama on Wizard's Den end, all of the problems in the wider community and so on.
Now, while technically, this definition is correct, it's also in the same vein of "being correct" as saying "doing bad things is bad". It disregards any nuance, it can be interpreted at any lengths, it can be abused and manipulated.
PJB's usage of "harassment" as an umbrella term for any kind of nuisance dissolved any kind of weight and meaning for it. If she didn't want to listen to something, yet, it still pestered her - this was a harassment and that's a ground for rules enforcement. This wide umbrella housed such things as "criticism", "pleads for attention", "mentions", "warnings", "demands" and many others things that we usually use in the day-to-day communication.
Me, as a person, is a very outspoken critic of many things I find distasteful, in bad manner or simply "stupid". As a project manager, I've made those things center of attention as examples, "what should be criticized and ostracized". P2W practices, disregard for player base, rat-race for player numbers, and so on. I've felt comfortable enough to share my views in my community since I am a firm believer in the classical interpretation of "freedom of speech". And my sharp criticism of other servers for P2W aimed at underage audience was a reason why I initially landed in the hot water with Wizard Den.
I will not go in details of every single fight with PJB and their team I had - it will be a long-long list of grievances. Instead, I'll just summarize what every single host or project manager in this community knows yet haven't said out loud (I think).
As a staff member, you were effectively forbidden to mention any other server in any way other than positive.
Why? Because saying something negative constitutes as a harassment. Saying this out loud as a staff member constitutes as a brigading.
I try to be very eloquent with my wording here but it would be hard for me to describe, how much damage to the wider community this approach caused. It's not censorship per se - it's a total wipe-out of any kind of discourse that could possibly happen in the first place. No moral standpoints, no so-to-speak "cultural ideals", no communal overwatch and no room for improvement.
If there's a pothole in the road - you not only weren't allowed to fill it, you weren't allowed to notice it in the first place.
While initially this could be considered as a fluke and result of manipulations, something that was/is widespread amongst Russian-speaking community of SS14, with time it was clear that this was not a pattern - it was just how it is. PJB and their team was hellbent on enforcing their own definition of "harassment".
For me, this absolutely murdered any goodwill towards Wizard Den even before we've got officially de-hubbed. You can't build a community without being involved in it, and you can't build a morally-strong, long-lasting community without bringing up problems, ideas and so on. You need to have a stance on things and community of yours should know your stance.
But while this is PJB's doing, it might've been wrong to label whole "Wizard Den" as an extension of PJB's will? Let's talk about that.
"Labeling".
Right now, everyone and their household pets knows that, yet, when it happened to me few years ago - no one questioned that and presumed best intentions on PJB's end.
PJB loves labeling people as "enemies".
If you don't agree with her, if you don't support her, if you don't parrot her words, if you don't stand by her and so on. You'll be labeled "enemy".
It took me one short-timed lack of awareness of my server affairs to be labeled as "habitual rule-breaker". As soon as very first strike was given out, for player number manipulation, something that I had no control over (long story) - any kind of goodwill from PJB towards my project was nowhere to be found. From that moment exactly, all of our reports were considered to be in bad faith, any reports about us were fast-tracked without any double-checking and any slip-up could be a ground for a further strikes.
There's this PDF file in form of presentation that outlines majority of dramas with Wizard Den from 2022 to 2023, it's called "SS14 Fracturing". It's 139 pages long. There's also chapter about exactly that - how Wizard Den treated White Dream. Every single time, when someone new stumbles upon this presentation and is in touch with me, they always say, "this is so horrible, I am so sorry you had to go through this", and I don't like that because people presume I was or I am vulnerable to that kind of thing. At the time, I was primarily angry. And I am quite vengeful. People say that PJB acts like an asshole, well, I am an asshole. Sorry for LARP.
What happens, when you labeled someone as "enemy", there's no goodwill or any ground for cooperation and yet - this "someone" turned out to have much more gut than you anticipated? This someone starts to pressure you. Let's talk about this.
"Pressure".
PJB folds under the pressure, and you've seen now how it happens.
It's violent, it's hectic and it's unpleasant to everyone witnessing the outburst. This usually happens when someone who wasn't ready to endure the pressure - encounters it.
As a project manager, you'll always be under the pressure - you'll have big pants to fill and you'll have obligation to walk long miles in these pants. People who are in charge of things and yet - are capable of handling things under pressure are getting good money just for that. These people are usually crisis managers and a lot of companies hang on their contribution. I know that because I've always been working in high-pressure fields, I mean, I've had some military experience and after that - I've worked in high-risk IT field. I can manage it.
PJB is a good programmer, no doubt, their contribution in terms of finishing and polishing whole game engine is nothing to joke about. Yet, good coding skill is not something that specifically is needed for a project manager. What they need - is ability, wisdom and general knowledge on how to handle difficult situations and how to make a complicated decisions.
When SS14 became big enough to have those difficult situations where PJB needed to execute complicated decisions to ensure goodwill of wider community would be preserved - PJB miserably failed at this. PJB knew about that, we've all seen, what kind of screw-up job Nyanotrasen dehubbing was. Instead of reflecting on this situation - PJB and their team decided to abstain from hard decisions and doubled down with "Hub Rules" that never addressed the issue.
With time, those difficult situations just grew in their complexity. Because hub was sterilized from any kind of discourse stemmed in the morals, some truly horrifying abominations of servers managed to spring up. Because of labeling, people who would've been ready to participate in handling these situations - had no goodwill to do so. And because of initial pressure, Wizard Den Team under PJB leadership had no incentive to deal with those situations.
And then, the logical thing happened.
All of these three things in conjunction just exploded in PJB's face.
This was first "international" large-scale drama, the one regarding Einstein-Engines dehubbing. I will not, again, divulge into explaining, what exactly happened - it is important because this was exactly the point when PJB snapped. At least I think so.
So, if you're asking, "why PJB is doing all of that" - this is starting point for that decision. Pressure breaks people, weight of decisions is not for everyone and when hardship encounters wall of ego - things get violent. SS14's first big drama was ought to happen because people in charge were not ready to handle things - they're thrashing around, trying to collect their wits and yet - not ready to address any of the issues that caused the meltdown in the first place. Self-reflection is one of the reason we, as a humans, have something called "self-consciousness" and yet - it still needs to be applied from time to time.
So, let this be somewhat of a cautious tale for anyone who's aspiring to be a project manager, doesn't matter of what - Wizard Den, own server, own company and so on.
Projects are very complicated mechanisms with lots and lots of moving components. Every single thing is tied with something - either directly or not. It's extremely easy to break something somewhere - and have no idea about that, before it all breaks down. You put trust in a wrong person - and this one person can cause a downfall for your whole project.
I do wish that Wizard Den - as project of SS14 and game server - would manage to get through this crisis, yet, I can't lament downfall of PJB. She had it coming.
Thanks for reading all of that, in case you did. I'd be happy to discuss this matter with anyone and I am grateful to any criticism of what was written.
We need to get SS13 running on temple OS, this isn't something the world wants but rather something it needs. The spiritual reboot of Space Station 13 should be written in Jai instead of C# and if you disagree with me on this it means you're a nigger.
I think pbj has completely won vs his breakaway faction at this point but to be fair never underestimate a perverted faggots ability to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victoryI just registered to ask if there's some possibility of that because I think I read he could get databases deleted
On that stream Armok and co. were breathlessly saying how you cannot misgender PJB (a tranny on the call calling people who misgender subhuman, ironically)Also want to know how reliable ARMOK+party are. I like his vids and the stream seemed decent, but some stuff related to his game is a bit goofy imo. Not image-destroying necessarily.
What about killing othersDO NOT kill yourself over spess game drama.
I don't want to say much but I knew him at one point but would prefer my anonymity. It is very entertaining to see his control freak nature backfiring on him and this whole project would be better if it was dusted. I remember being surprised he was in charge of SS14 when I went to it's discord some 4-5 years ago on an acct he wouldn't recognize and asked in the Q&A if you could be banned/blacklisted from hosting a server under any circumstances and he got really uppity and responded in a really passive aggressive way to a person he doesn't even know that there is no such thing. It makes me sad to see that SS13's game state is being full of perverts and freaks because the fun people get driven out for saying slurs.I think pbj has completely won vs his breakaway faction at this point but to be fair never underestimate a perverted faggots ability to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory
I guess it's pretty overshadowed by the breaking news but last night Jezithyr/Jesse Rougeau was defending the accusation PJB was trying to induce suicide by taking the janny mop away.Reminder: there's help available. DO NOT kill yourself over spess game drama.
