Sony hate thread

I would not be shocked if Soyny decide not to make any PS6 games come to the PS5. Because they now go digital, and its like a new chapter for them. So they treat the PS5 like they did the PS3 when the PS4 arrived. The focus will be making enhanced version of popular PS4/PS5 games for the PS6, instead of making new PS6 games run on the PS5.
We all know they already got a Bloorborne remake planned for the PS6 because how the hell else are they going to scam people into buying a $1000 console?

I doubt it given how fast FromSoft was more than willing to shoot down Bluepoint Game's attempts at it when they pitched it (and before they got executed for failing Sony), and with how fast PS4 emulation has progressed purely off of Bloodborne alone, let's just say they'd have thier work cut out for sure, even if we discounted pricing for both sides.

People need to be reminded, back in the early 00s day, frathouse douchefucks did not play videogames or consume electronic entertainment. They just didn't, it was all just banging girls, cars, crashing them, traveling and then working in daddy's big business. Halo and Xbox changed all of that, Halo multiplayer forever changed that.
...and then with the Xbox One they were convinced (by the gamejournos?) that the dudebros shouldn't be their target audience anymore and started changing their franchises to appeal to another audience, more feminized.

What gets me about this is.....why are the cattle freaking out about it NOW when this was a foregone conclusion?

"VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET"
"NO DISC NO BUY"

No fuckers. The time to "vote with your wallet" was 10 years ago. And you voted alright....voted for convenience instead of ownership. You helped make this bed. Now lie in it.

Not only that but the gaming press really didn't want to cover the story and instead spent several weeks talking about the heckin' deverinos who lost their job at Xbox. Their narrative switch didn't work, people are in favor of the soydevs losing their jobs. Now they are writing about fighting for game ownership (which is a lost cause because like you said, they should have fought it years ago) while still barely acknowledging what Sony is doing (another walled garden).

I honestly feel like I heard more (from game journo sources at least) about the mere rumor that the next xbox would be fully digital without a series x style disc option than sony outright saying they were ending physical altogether.

Before I go back to ChatGPT for another analogy, what was Sony thinking with splitting the PS3’s CPU and GPU memory usage in half? Xbox 360 had a full 512 MB ready to use, while the PS3 split its 512 MB into two. I’m sure there were other concessions on why the PS3 was horrendous to develop on.

Well of course game journos didn't want to cover it. They're a shitty industry that relies entirely on access "journalism" to be able to get any kind of content whatsoever. Sucking off Sony and Microsoft is entirely in their best interest.

and before they got executed for failing Sony
Bluepoint didn't fail Sony, they followed the retarded mandate to make live service games until Sony realized their own orders were stupid and anyone but the people who made the decision in the first place would have to take the fall for it.

Before I go back to ChatGPT
Is that why every single one of your posts is awful and more than often, wrong? Figures, I guess I don't have to take your posts seriously ever again.

Speaking of other things that are horrible and not worth taking seriously, now that the console generation is almost over, have there been ANY worthwhile PS5 exclusives? And yes, by exclusives I mean ones you can't play on PC. Astro Bot is the only one that comes to mind and a bing bing wahoo platformer isn't exactly a console seller, closest we got to that would be N64 and even outside of Mario 64 you had bangers left and right. Other than Astro Bot, are there any good PS5 exclusives?

He’s talking about this:

o they had open markets in all parts of the world and was easy for them to push the ... PS3 with almost zero competition
ooh, that was rough in the beginning. Sony expected it to sell out immediately like the PS2 and 360 did but even scalpers seemed to shy away from it in Europe. There was no problem getting a PS3 at launch, a week after launch, a month after launch, three months after launch... But why buy it, it had no games.

I’m sure something developed at late 2006 to 2007. That’s what happens when you make your system hard to develop for.

But why buy it, it had no games.
Time really is a flat circle, huh.

I'm going to laugh hysterically if there's still games releasing for the PS4 after the PS6 comes out is all I'm saying. Us being at the apparent tail end of the current console generation and developers are still releasing last gen ports to have a chance of making money should be damning

100%, even if some studios will move over to PS5/6, once they see that there is simply no demand, they will go back and make PS4 ports or even just develop with that console in mind. Switch 2 wins without even trying, so if it has comparable specs to the PS4 it's actually over.

A community-backed bounty has been launched in an effort to encourage the discovery of a major PlayStation 5 exploit,
YouTuber Dammit Jeff, the FULU Foundation, and supporters continuing to grow the reward. The announcement comes as a direct response to Sony's controversial decision to move the PlayStation platform to an all digital future.

In the above video, Jeff criticizes Sony's justification for the change and also showed users how to prevent their consoles from updating, allowing them to remain on older firmware versions that are generally more useful for security research.

The bounty has strict requirements. Any qualifying exploit must be capable of bypassing or modifying the PS5 hypervisor well enough to boot an alternative operating system while still allowing the console to return to Sony's official firmware and continue playing PS5 games. It must also work on the latest system software, provide access to the console's core hardware, and either be permanent or quick to repeat.

If a hardware modification is required, it must be affordable and simple enough to perform with basic soldering skills.

Although Sony anticipated criticism over abandoning physical media, the company has remained committed to its plans despite ongoing backlash. Of the various community responses so far, this exploit bounty has attracted the most attention and support.

"This feels like it's only a net benefit for Sony. That's it. The only thing we get out of this is, 'Oh, well... It's a little more convenient.' ... I keep seeing the same statistic everywhere- Yes. 85% of PlayStation game sales were digital last year, that is correct. But- And this is important- Adoption does not equate preference. ... How many people do you think chose the disc version of the PS5 over the digital version of the PS5? 82%. ... Clearly consumers still want at least the choice to decide where and how they buy their games."

Overview

The Product

The PlayStation 5 is the latest version of Sony’s flagship gaming console, released in 2020.

The Problem

When the PlayStation 2 released, Sony's bold vision for the console included its ability to be used as a general computing device—there was even an official Linux installation disc available for purchase!

Since early on in the PS3 era, however, Sony has flipped its stance and now goes to great lengths at every turn in locking down its hardware.

At a time when the prices of computing are through the roof (Consumer RAM prices are up around 3-4x in a year!), it seems absurd to have good hardware locked down—to tell PS5 owners 'no, we don't want to let you use your console however you like'. Whilst PlayStation 5s running very early firmware versions can be made to run Linux (archive), it is now near-impossible to obtain a device where those exploits still work.

The solution

We're looking for someone to find a way of giving current PlayStation 5 users real ownership over their own hardware.

The bounty can be won by any eligible person who makes a hardware, software, or combined modification or method to any model of PlayStation 5, that meets the following criteria:

  • It must demonstrably allow for the modification or bypassing of the PS5 hypervisor to the extent that an alternate OS can be booted. The alternate OS is not required to be stable.
  • It must either be a one-off implementation, or an implementation that takes no more than 10 minutes to execute if it needs to be repeated.
  • It must work on firmware version 13.42 or newer.
  • The alternate OS must be able to access the PS5's primary computation, memory, and graphics hardware.
  • The PlayStation 5 must continue to be capable of being booted into its original operating system, with the capability to play PS5 games.
If the proposed solution involves a hardware modification, it must:

  • Not require hardware (aside from an external disc drive) that has cost equivalent to any substantial portion of the PlayStation 5's cost
  • Be able to be carried out by someone with only basic soldering skills and equipment
The acceptable models of PS5 are:

  • All standard (fat) models (2020-2022)
  • PlayStation 5 (slim) (2023)
  • PlayStation 5 (slim) Digital Edition (2023)
  • PlayStation 5 Pro (2024)
To submit a solution, please first ensure that you have met all listed criteria and then contact the bounty team at bounty@FULU.org.

This bounty will expire on 31st December 2031, after which all contributors will be given the option to have their donation refunded, or to donate it to FULU, if no-one has submitted a successful solution.

As with all FULU bounties, claimants must be based in the United States, and will not be required to release their solution to the public if they do not wish to do so. See full terms here.

I've been loving the community notes raping and seeing the stray arrows hit anyone remotely promoting anywhere adjacent to PlayStation.

Just keep doing this, keep the struggle going. No amount of "fixing" the PS5 is going to fucking matter lol.

At this point with how much games cost now, I don’t think consoles have a way to justify themselves anymore, other than low entry price, but that too is going away. With the revelation that Xbox paid more than the cost of Stalker 2 for just 1 year of exclusivity, I don’t see a world where Sony or Xbox can afford these giant studios or paying giant exclusivity deals. Xbox just now has reaped what they sowed and Sony is doing the same with Bungie.

The amount of money for example to get Capcom to make their next big RE game exclusive to a console and forgo PC revenue isn’t possible/sustainable.

(Partly) the same reason that having 64 gigs of RAM and integrated graphics is inferior to 16 gigs of RAM and a card with 12 of VRAM. Specific hardware tailoring fits different purposes better, which is why the few developers who managed to wrangle the PS3 architecture could make the best looking console games that generation.

Sony just bet wrong with what was best for devs, so it turned out how it did.

From what I understand of the PS3, the Cell processor divided its 512 MB between its CPU and GPU instead of having each chip have its own allocated memory. More than that, developers had to split their code into seven parts for the PS3 to even execute it. On Sony's behest, they intentionally made the PS3 difficult to work with as some proclaimed lesson on developing software for them.
