Sony hate thread

This is an unprecedented time for the console space where the market cannot be described as anything other than being openly hostile toward its costumers.

- Hardware is not getting any discounts as it ages, worse, it is going up in price.

- Exclusives are few, far between and of questionable quality or non-existent.

- The second hand market for newer games is being destroyed on purpose.

- Platform holders can and will delete content off of your library, ban your account and brick your hardware at their discretion.

- Next gen consoles will be as expensive as PCs, games will be more expensive and with no alternative retailers, prices will remain high with barely any sales or discounts and refunds are effectively impossible.

- Predatory monetization and hidden costs will get even worse as a measure to extract more value from a shrinking costumer pool.

The future for consoles is grim, this is unsustainable and it might see a lot of people revolting by looking at their backlogs and deciding: "You know what? I'm going to play what I already own and not buy anything new, might as well look into other hobbies too."

Comparatively PC gaming will explode in the coming years, not only because there is actual freedom to do as you please with your hardware and software but because PC gaming in ARM architecture is becoming a reality. Android devices are growing in power, efficiency and numbers that far outpace any other hardware in the market and thanks to compatibility layers like Proton/FEX suddenly millions of these Android devices are now capable of playing PC games natively.

For example:

So people started turning the wheels in thier brain and remembered hat you can't change the region your Playstation account has in regards to the whole "We are fucking killing PS5 discs" thing, and realized that the people in the 130+ countries where you can't make a PSN account are going to get doubly fucked as no physical games means you'd be stuck with a glorified Blu-Ray player at best if you had a PS5 with a disc drive or at worst, be buying a very expensive brick that won't do anything until years down the line when people manage to get Linux running on ethier super early firmwares or on a high enough firmware version to do it anyways,
I expect PC and Steam to get even bigger in those countries that Sony simply refuses to sell games on PSN to countries like Albania and Philippines.

This is why Valve will ultimately “win” in the gaming space. They’re private, they don’t have to deal with faggot shareholders and aren’t legally obligated to constantly increase revenue/margins. The day Valve sells out and goes public it’s all over.

Bought a physical copy of Mouse PI for hire on the PS5 just to make Sony mad. It was cheap plus I never played it.

Edit Some said they modded their PS3. I modded my PS4 not to long ago and have a big ass hard drive to keep all my games on. My biggest gripe is it's sometimes hard to do the game updates on the thing. It's one of the easiest game systems to mod that and the Vita.

Here's a question. If you're a good little nigger/goy cattle and you buy GTA VI on the PS5 and then the PS6 comes out. Do you have to buy it again on the digital store? I'm guessing they'll justify it by going "Enhanced version" and sell it for $50 instead of 80 because you already bought it on the PS5. And if you didn't you pay full price.

If you told me I would play nothing but PS1, 2 and 3 for the rest of my life I would be okay with it. Those libraries are enough to fill a lifetime and have hundreds of amazing titles that still hold up today, especially 2 and 3.

Gray Newell, the heir apparent to Valve is 28.

I’d be okay with only having a PlayStation 1-3 to play. You have access to almost every good final fantasy. All the metal gear and great Resident Evil games. And then a ton of niche RPGs from Altus and Nippon Ichi.

Put me down for that.

Few things. Can he run a business as good as Gabe? Usually when kids take over, the business goes downhill and tries to make money as humanly possible. And isn’t he rumored to be a furry?

didn't he say that he wanted nothing to do with steam and games? or that was just some fagshit attack at valve? but yeah the day gaben croaks and valve becomes public, it'll be hell.

He started a game company and walked away from it to work on his racing career. But if Valve goes public, watching gamers versus investors/suits will be hilarious.

I think ya’ll are missing the point. The die hard Sony ponies aren’t going to throw out their decade plus digital library to go buy a PC and rebuild their collection. They will either stick with the PS5 until it dies and buy another second hand, or buy a PS6 because newest sports ball and COD.

I mean, how long has Madden and COD released games on the PS4 after PS5 was released?
Last year's Black Ops 7 got a PS4 release. Also, the Black OP 1/2 ports that came out this week got PS4 releases. MW4 that comes out in October will be the first PS5-only COD. The one nice thing I can say about the COD franchise is that they're committed to serving customers with low-end hardware.

I predict the PS5 releases for all games will extend long into the PS6 generation due to hardware prices, long development times, lack of exclusives, and probably low PS6 launch numbers.

I was going to post that as well. Because if you thought Soyny waited too long to pull the plug on PS4, oh buddy, it’s going to be years after the PS6 launch that Soyny pulls the plug

I would not be shocked if Soyny decide not to make any PS6 games come to the PS5. Because they now go digital, and its like a new chapter for them. So they treat the PS5 like they did the PS3 when the PS4 arrived. The focus will be making enhanced version of popular PS4/PS5 games for the PS6, instead of making new PS6 games run on the PS5.

Yes. You'll absolutely have to pay again for the PS6 version.

I can't think of a single example where a console version of a game received a free upgrade (even in just digital form) to the newer console's version of that same product. Backwards-compatibility used to at least allow you to play the physical media on the newer model (like PS1 games on the PS2, which IIRC could play the entire PS1 library with one exception -- a phenomenal success rate btw for a library with over a thousand titles), but of course now they've just openly said "nah, no more physical media, fuck you, lol" so there's no fucking way they'll give PS5 GTA VI owners a key for the PS6 version.

Pony up again, pay pigs, and welcome to a hell of your own choosing.

As an aside, I'd point out that not even Rockstar were this greedy with GTA V on PC. Even though they used their own launcher (which undoubtedly incorporates its own retarded DRM), they never restricted you from installing one purchased copy of the game on multiple PCs so long as those PCs were using the same Rockstar launcher account and weren't trying to run the game in multiple places at once on one purchase. That's how it's supposed to be.
