Sony hate thread

Sony is now offering a "free" trial for SAAROS. And by "free" as in for PS+ Premium subscribers:

I mean who the fuck would ever pay to "rent" a digital movie just for the file to become inaccessible after you watched it?
The video-on-demand/pay-per-view model isn't new nor unique to game consoles, although it has historically been reserved for brand new movies and one-off sporting events.

I think I've used it once on Amazon because it was 3 bucks to rent or 15 to own***; it was the only film in a series of 5 not available for "free" through Prime and I couldn't be bothered waiting for the DVD to arrive (also the movie turned out to be total dogshit).

TL;DR It's a niggercattle thing.

So has most of this thread just never heard of the idea of renting movies? You know… go to a video store, pay a few dollars to rent a DVD, watch it at home, return it… has no one ever heard of that? Or the modern version, where instead of renting a physical copy of a movie, you stream a rental…? Want me to explain what a VCR is, too?

>b-but it’s a game console
Back in Ye Olden Days of 2007, we didn’t have 20 different devices per household that each had access to 20 different streaming services, and being able to turn on your TV and instantly watch whatever wasn’t on Netflix (the one single major streaming service at the time, which also only streamed to a PC) without leaving your home was a novel concept. iTunes (and probably a couple other services) had already been doing digital movie rentals for a few years, so Microsoft and Sony just threw it into their existing marketplaces. Sure, buying/renting a movie from a console seems dumb now, but it’s grandfathered in from a time when it actually made some sense.
