Sonic Movie Thread - From a Disastrous Teaser/Trailer to Not That Bad a Movie; Got a Sequel

I saw it today, and I'd say it's pretty good, a nice popcorn flick movie.

Like what was mentioned, the two strongest characters in the film were Sonic and Robotnik, which was due to them nailing the former and the latter being Jim Carrey being allowed to just lose his mind on set. Tom the cop wasn't too bad either

I actually think his take works, since he's a lunatic hypergenius more at home with machines with people. Even gave a nice reason for why both names worked; his real name is Robotnik, but Sonic calls him the Eggman because he often uses egg shaped drones to hunt him.

It's quippy as shit and a lot of that doesn't land, but a lot of jokes actually do. Hell, I laughed quite a bit at a couple of them. The dance segments are long, but it didn't bug me all that much and I didn't think them as cringy to be honest.

The kids in the theater sure as shit loved that movie though, so it did succeed there.

And no, the retarded shills/bots on twitter are dead wrong. No racial slurs (the closest we get to that is Tom's wife getting into a bitch off with her sister), and definitely no gay slurs, which may or may not sadden you guys.

Haven't this been the norm in the past few years?, most critics and "reviewers" are just cunts that will clap like seals at whatever bullshit panders to their own particular interest and will trash anything different.

When most audience gives a decent score and the critics doesn't, that's when it is easy to realise who truly has the power to make something successful, I mean, a thousand paying people against a single angery manlet or rainbow wig, come on. Bit off topic but this reminds me of the last Godzilla movie and how some fags were complaining that most of the movie was just about monsters fighting and the human drama wasn't developed, like, did any of those bottom feeding idiots know what the Godzilla franchise is about?

Anyway, just watched the movie and I call tell you it's fine. Not the finest movie ever, not an award sweeping thing but it is enjoyable for what it is, definetly worth a watch while eating popcorn and relaxing.

Hell, wasn't one of the complaints of the first Godzilla Legendary film from both audiences and critcs that there wasn't enough monster action?

Yup. Honestly, When Godzilla vs Kong comes out I'm expecting them to complete the trifecta and go "I hate monster action".

I actually didn't mind that when I saw it. I only complained about how bland the humans were, because I think you need the human element to at least be something you kind of give a shit about when the monsters wreck everything in their mindless action set pieces.
 
This almost outgrossed the Super Mario Bros movie on its first day of release. Genesis really does what Nintendon’t
 
I just got back from seeing the movie and it was great. I was expecting fan pandering, but it was kept to a minimum. Sonic and Robotnik were the best. I hope Ben Schwartz might replace RCS as Sonic since his voice fits better for the character. Somehow this film and MLP managed to do what Game of Thrones and the SW sequel trilogy couldn’t do, care on what it was making and be good.
 
What surprised me was that there were actually one or two moments where the film felt sincere. Sonic flossing and dank memes aside, it could have been loud and obnoxious at a constant un-ending rate but I could tell that there were actually people behind this thing that gave a shit. Even if the film isn't a GREAT movie by any means, I'm glad that it's at the very least good. It's a pretty cute, occasionally earnest family film and it could have been so much worse. So in the end, I'm really happy for it. Hell, I might even be excited for the sequel.

Bryan Cranston was the best part of the movie and marketing. Felt like a bait and switch when he's out after the first act and we follow the boring son.
 
My son wants to see it, so I’ll probably be taking him to it in the next week or so. I’m mostly shocked that there is still a large enough fan base to get this to a near $70 million holiday weekend opening. After Detective Pikachu, based off of a much more successful and relevant franchise, performed decently but not overwhelming so, I figured that Sonic would end up making in its entire run what it’s going to do in its first four days. I’m sure Sega is going to do what they do best and completely destroy all this goodwill by the end of the year.

Robotnik in the movie is pretty similar to Bobby in some ways, being a manchild who hates people, loves the future of automation, despises the country way of life when talking to the Cop, regales us with the time be built robots to nearly kill his 5th grade bully, and wears shades and dusters.

Sonic also very clearly loves the small town of Green Hill and tries to prevent Tom the Cop from moving away from it when he finds out about his plan to move to San Francisco during their trip. He actually gets very upset too.

Basically the movie accidentally pokes fun at Bobby's tard philosophy and himself without even trying to, since these elements were kind of already in the game anyway.
