I think it heralds a return to apolitical media
I can agree since this movie nor the filmmakers aren’t making any political statements at all. To me, it looks disinterested in being woke.

Also, the trailer has managed to come close to the views Episode IX’s trailer had in five days than Episode IX did in four months.

We now live in a world where a Jumanji reboot and a live action Sonic movie are better crowd-pleasers then the new fucking Star Wars movie.

I wasn't quite convinced before, but now I'm confident we're in a parallel universe.

Evidently the one where Sonic becomes good again. Not only was Sonic Mania a success, it got Tyson Hesse a gig on the first live action Sonic movie (let alone a handful of great animated shorts). That's incredible. Even more amusing is that Sonic now has a shot at having a better live action adaptation than Mario.

Genesis Does what Ninten-never-did.

By the way, the new Tyson Hesse redesign only cost $5 million dollarydoos:

Funny thing is they could've saved that five million had they actually gotten it right the first time. I know studios think they're made of money to just throw around, but they're still stingy merchants on top of it. Paramount had to have gotten sweet-talked into it.

Maybe, but hopefully this and Joker will set the right precedents for other movie studios going forward.

Also of note in the article is they caught this early. For the original design, they had only developed as much of the model as they needed for the first trailer, and nothing more. That helps to explain why it was only $5m and not the rumored $35m; most people thought the whole movie was done with the existing model, but the article from IndieWire suggests otherwise.

So it could've been much worse.

Finally watched the new trailer and it looks decent. I'm still baffled how they greenlit the original Sonic design. I know Hollyweird is filled with sycophants and physical embodiments of Dunning-Kruger effect but someone should have noticed that the original design was beyond fucked up.

Still won't go see it in theaters. Imagine the smell :briefs:.

Maybe Chris Chan was right about the convergence

So there is a weird ethic among hollyweird pros. You don't say " Person X did a bad job" because they worked hard and being creative is a very personal thing that can cause a lot of conflict behind the scenes [which ruins collaborative working enviroments]

Now after like 4 or 5 failures then some passive aggression slips in until they quit

Última edición:

Watching these two back-to-back really hits home how much Sonic is associated with porn.

Actually the Conan skit looks like something out of The Man Show, which I appreciated. Then they decided to cap it off with the classic hamfisted boomer rejoinder: "lol you complain about this but not starving kids in africa"

Sorry everybody on Twitter had the same 1-minute reaction to it & Jeff Fowler decided not to be a stuck-up Hollywood cunt about it. Who should we write or send money to to end cancer and hunger?

Ironically enough, the Sonic movie probably gained a good amount of people willing to see the movie since the studio admitted its mistake and actually delayed the movie in order to fix it, whereas Star Wars...

They tried to fix Star Wars too. Episode IX had almost an entire year of reshoots!!!

It's still going to be shit though.

True, but Sonic has the benefit of Paramount going out of their way to let the fans know they're listening while Disney's take on Star Wars is seen as emblematic of Hollywood's contempt for their own audiences.

Plus, Sonic also kind of has the benefits of low expectations going for them where the franchise has been a target of mockery for a long while now and at this point, Sega sort of embraces it and plays along with the jokes and memes at Sonic's expense instead of doubling down on the raw contempt for their own fans like Disney does.

The fall of Star Wars is a more recent phenomenon and while the prequels were shit, the Disney Star Wars films are in an entirely different league of their own when it comes to negative backlash.

At this point, I think the Sonic movie is probably still going to suck, but it won't be "so awful it's horrible" like the old trailers indicated. It'll be more of a "meh" film.
