I do hyper fixate on characters. It used to be to an extreme degree, especially in high school. It’s not nearly as bad now. I think Shadow was one of the first characters I really obsessed over. I thought I had gotten over it and he had just become a character I sort of like now. But with my reaction to changes like that in the movie I guess I never really did. I just feel ridiculous. It has affected me emotionally to such a degree that I feel like I’m grieving something. I know it’s not normal to feel this way over something like this. Like I’m getting close to 30 and I still feel like I haven’t matured past my late teens. I hate being like this.
Honestly, you need to learn to accept that's just a quirk your brain does. The more you fight it the more miserable you'll be.
If you can, find a way to accept that your brain/heart can have a 'headcanon' for your favorite characters so you don't let media dictate what a character is for you. You need to take power away from 'official' writers.

I mean, I really do get it-- not with the religious cope but with the way other people interpret certain characters can be painful when you're an autistic fuck. It used to bother me a lot when I was much younger.

For example what Shadow is to *me* is different than what the movie's canon is. Yet it's really fun to see how other people interpret Shadow as- because it's like seeing a multiverse. And what's cool about Sonic is it's pretty easy to pick as choose what you see as canon.

You just need to change your perspective on how you receive storytelling in general... if that makes any sense?

Like you can still see this as what Shadow and Maria is but still enjoy that someone interpreted Maria as a 60s flower child who went roller-skating with an alien that landed on Earth. It's different but it's interesting and it doesn't mean it changes what happened in SA2. It's a movie simply taking inspiration from it rather than doing a faithful adaptation.

Or just reject it enirely and focus on the stuff about Shadow that makes you happy.

Anyway, I think Jesus would be okay with you being an autist who loves Shadow to an obsessive degree. Seriously, don't self flagellate yourself over it. Just find a way for your obsession to make you happy rather than miserable.

SA2 came out over 20 years ago. Things are going to change when they revisit the old story, that's how it goes. The Holy Church of Sega will guide you my child, too many characters have already died for your sins. And remember that Sonic 06 taught us that Sonic is Jesus, so you will always be safe. Shadow and Maria are just tricks of the Devil.

There is one thing I'd like to point out about Shadow though...
Future film could still have Black Doom and the Black Arms as antagonists even after writing out his involvement with Gerald Robotnik and Project Shadow, especially if said films decide to touch on what happened to Shadow before he was encased in a meteor and crashed on Earth.
I was thinking that Black Doom could still be a future antagonist as the meteor Shadow was in looked quite similar in color and texture to the Black Comet.

Well that could probably be the plot of that Knuckles and Shadow show that Idris Elba and Keanu want to do, especially with Knuckles being the protector of the Emeralds.
As a big Knuckles fan (yes I like the OG penders-verse) and Keanu fan I would throw so much money at this project. The two characters in this continuity have great potential chemistry.

Also we still have the mystery from movie 1 where it was echidnas chasing Longclaw and baby sonic so there's a potential Knuckles-people villain arc. (Dimitri let's go ooooooo. XD)

As a star trek/wars/godzilla fan....

Yeah we know that pain.

This is kinda a really odd thing to praise, but that part during the climax when Super Sonic and Super Shadow are fighting the robot army and Shadow pauses crowed on the one robot, does that slight head tilt and then blasts it apart with his foot…I’m not really sure why, but I really love that moment.

I cheered like an autistic nerd when THAT music kicked in, I am not ashamed to admit it. The fact that lyrics made it in was a very welcome surprise.
I didn't cheer, but I DID have a shit-eating grin on my face. Overall, actually a solid 8/10. Keanu and ESPECIALLY Jim Carrey understood the fucking assignment, less humans, which is always a positive, and making Maria a hippie rebel skater girl was NOT what I was expecting, but it was an inspired choice.

Giving everyone an actual role in the plot definitely helped. That's how you should use human characters in a Sonic story, not as romcom fluff.

I personally preferred the fights at the beginning of Sonic 3; Shadow's initial breakout and the fight with the team in Tokyo were my personal favorites. I also kinda liked the flashback sequence with his interactions with Maria; those were nice.

To be honest, though; I liked the whole movie. "Live And Learn" kicking in during the finale was a great touch.

Yeah like the human characters were more tolerable in this movie especially since they just acted like weirdos who wouldn't be out of place in the games as weird NPCs.

Also I am surprised and happy that Knuckles and Tails got to do stuff

At least they paid homage to her original costume, that was cute. It does hurt a bit to see Sonic getting a sliding timeline, but that keeps it more relevant to the target audience. Since these movies were set in the 2020s, 50 years back would be the 1970s now instead of 1950s of SA2. It makes sense she had to reflect that time period.

Still made me feel old realizing that Sonic Adventure 2 was over 20 years ago.

What got the biggest laugh out of me was Gerald Robotnik's comment on women in the military 😉

And he was proven right when Krysten Ridder's character handed over the second key to Tom disguised as her superior without a hint of suspicion.

However, as Sonic 3 writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently revealed to GamesRadar+, Amy Rose nearly played a role in the third movie, rather than just popping up in the post-credits scene.

But as Casey adds, they ultimately decided against that plan out of the fear of overcrowding the feature: "We did talk long and hard about including her in movie three actually, before ultimately, we all sort of decided that there just wasn't quite enough room to do her justice and Shadow justice. We didn’t wanna crowd the picture." Instead they are now looking ahead to the future, with Casey teasing: "I think we have a great plan for what's gonna really make her work as a film character."
Naturally, the duo don't want to say much more, holding their cards close to their chest, but Miller's adds that they want to ensure that Amy Rose is fully fleshed out: "You don’t want her to be there as a fourth wall running around with the trio. We just want to see her be cool. She's kind of the big female character of the franchise."
Casey jokes that he has certainly been feeling the pressure from one family member: "There’s got to be more to her than just being the girl. But we've wanted to get her in there. My little niece has been giving me hell about it. I was saying she'll get here eventually. I promise."
