Honestly, you need to learn to accept that's just a quirk your brain does. The more you fight it the more miserable you'll be.I do hyper fixate on characters. It used to be to an extreme degree, especially in high school. It’s not nearly as bad now. I think Shadow was one of the first characters I really obsessed over. I thought I had gotten over it and he had just become a character I sort of like now. But with my reaction to changes like that in the movie I guess I never really did. I just feel ridiculous. It has affected me emotionally to such a degree that I feel like I’m grieving something. I know it’s not normal to feel this way over something like this. Like I’m getting close to 30 and I still feel like I haven’t matured past my late teens. I hate being like this.
If you can, find a way to accept that your brain/heart can have a 'headcanon' for your favorite characters so you don't let media dictate what a character is for you. You need to take power away from 'official' writers.
I mean, I really do get it-- not with the religious cope but with the way other people interpret certain characters can be painful when you're an autistic fuck. It used to bother me a lot when I was much younger.
For example what Shadow is to *me* is different than what the movie's canon is. Yet it's really fun to see how other people interpret Shadow as- because it's like seeing a multiverse. And what's cool about Sonic is it's pretty easy to pick as choose what you see as canon.
You just need to change your perspective on how you receive storytelling in general... if that makes any sense?
Like you can still see this as what Shadow and Maria is but still enjoy that someone interpreted Maria as a 60s flower child who went roller-skating with an alien that landed on Earth. It's different but it's interesting and it doesn't mean it changes what happened in SA2. It's a movie simply taking inspiration from it rather than doing a faithful adaptation.
Or just reject it enirely and focus on the stuff about Shadow that makes you happy.
Anyway, I think Jesus would be okay with you being an autist who loves Shadow to an obsessive degree. Seriously, don't self flagellate yourself over it. Just find a way for your obsession to make you happy rather than miserable.
