Looking at the controversy over these YA novels and HBO's Confederate, you have to wonder if Ayn Rand would've been allowed to publish Atlas Shrugged without it being called a piece of communist propaganda since there's tons of collectivists, socialists, and other people against the free market in that book.
At least we know totalitarian communism works in that it establishes a society which can actually do shit, whereas anarcho-communism is fantasy which results in totalitarian communism at best and the McWarlords at worst. On the other hand, anarcho-communism have a better argument than other communists that their communism has never been tried.

And the whole, "work hard and make it"? Please. Not until my parents' generation. My great-grandfathers on my mother's side were coal miners in Western PA in the early 1900s. She's obviously never heard of company stores. Or how dangerous those mines were back then -- you worked 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, for jackshit. And what did you end up with? Black lung and debt.
I'm not saying that slavery wasn't fucked up, but c'mon. No, my college didn't benefit from slavery, it was founded in the 1950s by an order of nuns.
And not a single word from her about how the Native Americans were treated. If anyone got a raw deal, it was them. I hate it when people play the Oppression Olympics. Nobody wins. It's such a Biblical concept, the "sins of the fathers" bullshit.

Exactly. Remember when they tried to rename anyone disabled, physically or mentally, to 'special' (needs) and saying 'So and so is....special' just became synonymous with them being a tard, basically.
I guess my point is, undesirable and negative traits are always going to be just that. The crazy raving lunatic in shit-stained pants at the bus-stop is always going to put people off no matter how much you try to rephrase it as something not-negative.
The best you can do is say: "hey, some people have been dealt a shit card by nature, they can't really help it." But people are still going to recognize who is a nutcase regardless.
