Aw snap Shin Godzilla's limited run was extended! This is great news for us regarding the Bluray release, as well as a good thing for the score on Rotten Tomatoes (for a movie to be certified fresh on a limited release, it needs at least 40 reviews, which Shin Godzilla doesn't yet have).

So yeah, if you couldn't make it work for the initial release, there is still time!

I don't live anywhere near a major city or even a minor city that would even think about screening this. I just want the fucking thing on BluRay already.

There's a huge as fuck 4gig cam I got off 4chan/m/ that's 1:53 in length, okay quality. Looks like one of those youtube videos where they put the empty theater in it almost.
I meant in HD, sorry. The cams are breddy gud but I have been wanting a decent quality release for a while.

That tail face thing is actually kinda awesome. The whole body horror approach to the design really works.

The body horror aspect of the design is cool because it feels like an expansion on the original concept that Godzilla is covered in old radiation scars. This design element gave Godzilla a sense of pathos and motivation-he's not just destroying Tokyo because he's a big stupid monster and big stupid monsters destroy things, he's pissed and retaliating for his disfigurement. Though it's weird since this movie 86'd the idea of Godzilla being the result of a nuclear explosion and he's basically just destroying things because...he's a big dumb monster and big dumb monsters destroy things.

I like the new design all in all. In addition to the gory skin texture and unnerving human eyes it's got a great overall silhouette that calls the original 1954 version to mind.

All in all, other than some minor autistic quibbles about Godzilla's characterization this is probably one of my favorite Godzilla movies ever. It's certainly objectively one of the best Godzilla movies ever, much better than the Legendary Godzilla movie which is another movie I really like.

Bumping this thread to remind people that the blu-ray release just happened yesterday, so now you can see the movie without torrenting.

Apparently the Funi bluray drops the words on the screen labeling everybody's title and stuff.

Not sure if I should be sad about that or not.

I'm honestly curious about what the dub's like since this is FUNimation we're talking about. Probably going to watch it with subs after one watch depending on how I like it, but it's going to be a little weird to hear Piccolo coming from a government official, or Shinji from the main guy who survives to the end if what I'm expecting is true.

You should be sad, there's a wonderful joke about a character who keeps getting a longer and longer title that is now totally dropped. A minor thing, but a definite negative.

Alright, got the DVD, and I can confirm that while the kanji's gone, the translations are there by turning on the subtitles. So the joke may still be preserved.

The dub was surprisingly well-done, I only recognized like two FUNimation voice actors (Chris Sabat and I believe J. Michael Tatum, who was one of the main characters). I have a feeling they mostly used their newer cast than the old based on that, but I can't find an English voice cast as of now.
