I had a freak occurance the other day where the clouds were so disorganized that there was a tunnel for the sunlight to come through and hit a relatively benign thunderstorm cell from behind causing it to look that concerning color without being indicative of a heavy updraft.
All of Chicago under a Tornado Warning. PDS Alert issued for Cook County. Take Shelter immediately.

Had some rough straight line winds and a helluva lot of rotation in the sky, but all the heaviest shit went to the north of me in my part of Illinois. I'm on a decently wooded lot, and aside from the usual Illinois post-severe storm yard cleanup debris (small pile of sticks/small branches) I only lost like 1/6th of a ~50 year old sugar maple that fell clear and only did turf damage. I stripped it down and cut it up some, but I ain't dealing with it any more til tomorrow. Guess I'll be ahead of the game on firewood next year.
Lots of power flashes, but never went dark in my neighborhood. Took a little drive to get some ice for my patio cooler and saw lots of stripped siding/shingles and some downed trees. Hearing lots of damage reports upstate a bit while listening to the EMA scanner. Hoping things aren't too bad in the harder hit areas north of me. Got friends and family up there. The usual phone/txt/social media tree has me thinking everyone is probably mostly okay, so there's that to be glad for.
