Land in west Poland is more expensive than in East germany, same goes for the rest of central europe. Labour and energie are the big positives of Poland. Energie is cheap and you can get mid range workers. the high end is already in germany.

there is always need for some hard labour. you thing your vegetables pick themself? or your pork slaughters itself?
a couple of million workers who go back to the east when they are done are way better than a couple of million muslims who just want handouts.

they also yield some good high value workers. not as high of a percentage as germans, but way higher than muslims, or southern europeans.
 
If we already talk about military spending, is it really such a giant economic loss? Let me explain, I assume most of the army budget is spent mostly on USA citizens (army personnel) and USA companies (weapon manufacturers) rather than bleed off to other countries. Said personnel and companies are not the typical welfare leeches and you can assume they will spend it on viable economic targets. So in the end the spending at least motivates the economy a little and stays largely in the USA.
Besides that, I assume a good chunk of the money is invested in R&D that can be profitable for arms sales and can advance technology for everyone (like ARPANET).
 
The fact that the DNC and media outlets like CNN are actively working against Bernie make me think they’re gonna do anything in their power to make sure he doesn’t win the Democratic nomination. He’s a meme candidate for armchair revolutionaries who don’t like to leave their houses.

The media is actively working against the American people. Trying to manufacture drama between the candidates for ratings, tearing them down over the dumbest things, lying about or disregarding facts... all because we’re obtaining news and forming opinions without them. I have not watched cable news in years as I cut the cord. They have no power over me.

The only MSM news source I bother with is Fox, and even then it's usually just for Tucker Carlson's segments on American societal decay. His American Dystopia series kicked off with a squelch documenting the third-world travesty that is San Francisco, worth the watch imo.

There's no reason to have a cable tv hookup these days, all the shows are pozzed, the news lies to you, and the cable companies are happy to sell you access to HGTV 4 times over instead of updating their infrastructure.

The US has socialized healthcare, a majority of Americans are covered by federally-funded schemes. The problem is that they're shit, and the proposed solutions to make it all more 'universal' are even worse and unpopular. The whole thing is just a mess, easily one of the worst ways to incorporate a mixed system. And it isn't helped by both parties actively sabotaging eachother's attempts to move it into another direction, as well as shit tons of bureaucratic bloat and corruption. That having been said, just copy-pasting the healthcare model of say, Belgium, and aggressively pushing it on the US would be a disastrously dumb move for a variety of reasons. Shockingly, not all countries are the same and you can't just impose the trappings of a foreign system and expect the entire society to neatly fall into line around it.

This is a bit of a meme. US public expenditure on healthcare is above average for a First World Country. Modern European militaries are a joke, but they still cost a lot of money. The French spend something like 2,2% of their GDP on defense, as opposed to the American 3,3%. It's a fairly decent margin, but a single percentage point isn't a big enough difference to explain why France has universal healthcare and the US doesn't. Especially not when you consider that most of these socialized healthcare systems go back to the close of WWII or even earlier, and were coupled with decades of excessive military and other national security spending during the Cold War. There are a lot of reasons why healthcare spending has been going up while defense spending has been going down, but it isn't like the former was built on the back of the latter.

A lot of European countries actually still didn't pay that much for their Cold War militaries. The Brits spent like 5,5% in the 80s, the French peaked at something like 6,5% in the 60s (about the same as the US did under Reagan) and that exponentially dropped down to 3,7% when Reagan did come to power. Yet the difference with the modern militaries is night and day. One explanation is the changing nature and costs of warfare: smaller, more expensive units as opposed to cannon fodder men and armour to stop the Russians. But the biggest reason is probably just indifference and greed from the politicians. Halving a military's budget from 3% to 1,5% doesn't just leave you with a similar force that's just half the size, because the politicians pick and choose which elements they want to cut corners on. And these people know jack shit about the army and just look at what has the highest number on the budget sheets, which tends to be vehicles. So they crippled militaries by shelving armour, planes and logistics, completely ruining their power projection beyond the level of SF raids. The end result is a military that's stripped to the bone yet simultaneously bloated, and recruitment dropped massively.

And the stupidest thing about this? This all happened in the late '00s, early '10s, just after Afghanistan and Iraq had started to cool down and most Euros had withdrawn already or were going to. The recession hit, and the politicians tried to convince themselves and the people that we didn't need militaries at all. Fast-forward 5-10 years later and the Syrian and Ukrainian Civil Wars are in full swing, and 'muh Russia' panic is setting in. These same fucking politicians are now shovelling billions into the armed forces, leasing back tanks they themselves had all sold just a few years earlie. It's the most textbook example of why maintaining even a bottomline competent military is of the utmost importance: you don't know what will happen in a few years, and if shit does hit the fan, you want to already have an armed force ready and able, rather than having to build it up from scratch at the last minute.

I think the sad truth when it comes to American public health spending and European defence spending is that both have become fundamentally crippled due to politics and wasteful and incompetent spending in an alarmingly short period of time.

In Warren's case, they stated that the “people who support her are highly-educated, more affluent people who are going to show up and vote Democratic no matter what” and that “she's bringing no new bases into the Democratic Party.”
