In tennis, you aren't allowed to receive advice from your coach in between points. The umpire noticed Serena receiving hand signals from her coach, and warned her about it. In response, she had a nuclear fucking meltdown and she started to actually get penalized because of that.

Except from what I saw in his matches he didn't get away with it, they gave him multiple penalties and he didn't get away with his fights and temper tantrums. He got the same criticism and was known for being difficult in tennis. I've seen videos and Serena fought on the court as many times as John. She'll still have a career and will still win matches.

And there is a grain of truth in it: the first violation carries no material penalty, so if you are unfairly warned even once in your life and rage about that, you get a point penalty for the second violation, but if you chimpout every game for no reason, you only receive the initial warning.

Nope, she's playing for Japan for placement: as one of the two competent female tennis players in the country, she automatically qualifies for both mid-level and top-level tournaments. No kidding! She would tell him to stop talking to her, which he did, and the start up again. If she had just not let the warning for coaching bother her, she could have won. Hell, even if she did throw her racket and got the point penalty, that can be made up during play. She could even had made it back from the game penalty if she had collected herself. Professional athletes are trained to focus on their play and not on mistakes. She forgot that completely and it threw her chance.
