Sounds like the punchline to something like "Barry Bonds Admits To Extensive Technique Training - Steroid Prescribers Shocked At Revelation"

I'm dumb, how is coaching an issue in tennis?
In tennis, you aren't allowed to receive advice from your coach in between points. The umpire noticed Serena receiving hand signals from her coach, and warned her about it. In response, she had a nuclear fucking meltdown and she started to actually get penalized because of that.

> I'm punished for being a woman, the ref is sexist
> Her opponent is also a woman
And she can't even play the race card, lol, Osaka is black too

On the topic of Serena Williams, a 2016 Joe Rogan shares his opinion.

This madman might be on to something :story:

Funny how I mentioned John McEnroe. The public is now calling the Serena Williams thing a double standard because people praised John McEnroe when he was famous for freaking out on the tennis court.

Except from what I saw in his matches he didn't get away with it, they gave him multiple penalties and he didn't get away with his fights and temper tantrums. He got the same criticism and was known for being difficult in tennis. I've seen videos and Serena fought on the court as many times as John. She'll still have a career and will still win matches.
John got punished too and got penalties.
By the way did they not see how many times Serena kept starting shit with that ref? It wasn't only one time. She wouldn't let it go.

Apparently, the referee was a misogynist and a racist.
Never mind she was playing against another non white woman.

Quoting the first line of the Jezebel article:
I do not follow tennis, but it’s pretty obvious even to me that the sport and its coverage has been testing Serena Williams with overtly sexist bullshit.

She's not only non-white, she's black. Dad is from Haiti, mom is Japanese, the family in Japan disowned them, and they used the mom's name so she could get schooling, housing in Japan, as Japanese are like super-racist.

Anyway she's basically American, but the family declared as Japanese because the sponsorship $$$ are better.

Her being American makes it even more awkward since the American audience booed her when she got her trophy.

Edit:
Serena disputed the call and claimed Mouratoglou was only giving her an encouraging thumbs-up.

So Serena did see the gesture. I saw people claiming that Serena didn't see it at all.

Someone asked what Japan was saying about this. NHK media celebrated her win and barely mentioned the drama.

Previous Serena Williams drama quotes:
1. 2009 Semi-Final- Racquet abuse violation: "I’m going to take this ball and shove it down your throat." (to line judge.)
2. 2011 Final- Penalised for yelling at her opponent while playing. ""are you the same one that screwed me over last time?" as well as“If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way, because you're out of control... You're totally out of control, you're a hater, and you're unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow... We're in America last I checked. Can I get a water or am I gonna get violated for a water? Really, don't even look at me! I promise you, don't look at me, 'cause I am not the one. Don't look my way.” (To umpire)
Probation for 2 years.
She has a history of threatening officials whenever she's losing or the game doesn't go her way. She needs to stop acting like the victim.

She didn't mean the ref was specifically favoring Osaka, she meant he was punishing her for being an Outspoken Black Womyn.
And there is a grain of truth in it: the first violation carries no material penalty, so if you are unfairly warned even once in your life and rage about that, you get a point penalty for the second violation, but if you chimpout every game for no reason, you only receive the initial warning.

She's playing for Japan though. For the yen.
Nope, she's playing for Japan for placement: as one of the two competent female tennis players in the country, she automatically qualifies for both mid-level and top-level tournaments. Japan is no Middle East or Russia; the sponsorship cash comes from private corporations, which can and do sponsor foreign athletes and teams.

How tf do they spin this as a sexism thing? The other woman wasn't being a disrespectful cow and in turn, only received praise.

Even funnier since there's footage of John McEnroe doing the same thing (and other male tennis players) and none of them got away with temper tantrums and any other unsportsmanlike behavior.

The commentators even mentioned that men are more likely to flip out on a first or second infraction, thus not seeing a game penalty.

No kidding! She would tell him to stop talking to her, which he did, and the start up again. If she had just not let the warning for coaching bother her, she could have won. Hell, even if she did throw her racket and got the point penalty, that can be made up during play. She could even had made it back from the game penalty if she had collected herself. Professional athletes are trained to focus on their play and not on mistakes. She forgot that completely and it threw her chance.

I think even if she hadn't received the last penalty, she likely wouldn't have won because she was so set on an apology that she felt she needed. She didn't even shake the umpire's hand at the end of the match to show good sportsmanship.

The color of her skin has nothing to do with it though. Or the fact that she's a woman. She may feel that way to try to excuse her own behavior but that's her issue.

I am so sick of this steroidal mutant still trying to eat up Tennis news cycles as her "career" begins it's hopefully short downslide when her skills dimish.

It seems like it's been forever since the Williams sisters, these hulked out linebackers in skirts came on the scene and just completely shitted up the sport. It's like The Powers That Be decided what the sport needed were a couple of Jamie Foxx crossdressing skits from In Living Color come true.

These abominable, overgrown and overly tolerated spoiled brats have been stinking up the courts since 1998, and I can't wait till both of them rip their ACL's and make women's tennis great again. Rules have never mattered to them and they are celebrated by braindead sports journalists, wimpy white knights and prissy catladies who can't be bothered to put down their wine bottles to actually swing a racket themselves. She is a queen for being a cheat, the "boss of her life" and other such idiotic descriptors

It's one of the reminders that I sometimes feel like I'm living in some sort of funhouse mirror world, tearing at the fabrics of reality that actually makes my head hurt, that the Williams "sisters" not only tolerated, but celebrated, and "you're" some kind of a bad person because you have an a brain and eyes for noticing how much they stink.

Also there were absolutely no repercussions ever for John McEnroe. He could say anything, never ever penalized. He had that white male shield.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McEnroe#1984:_best_season

The year did not end without controversy. While playing and winning the tournament in Stockholm, McEnroe had an on-court outburst that soon became notorious. After questioning a call made by the chair umpire, McEnroe demanded, "Answer my question! The question, jerk!" McEnroe then slammed his racquet into a juice cart beside the court in anger, and the stadium crowd booed him. He was suspended for 3 weeks (21 days) for exceeding a $7,500 limit on fines that had been created because of his behavior.[14] As a result, he was disqualified from competing in the following week's significant Wembley (London) Indoor tournament, at which he was supposed to be the number one seed, with Connors and Lendl (the eventual winner) as the second and third seeds. During his suspension he injured his left wrist in practice causing him to withdraw from the Australian Open, the fourth major of the year.

Sexism. Definitely Sexism.

Controversy was never far from McEnroe, however; in his fourth-round match against Mikael Pernfors at the 1990 Australian Open, McEnroe was ejected from the tournament for swearing at the umpire, supervisor, and referee.[14] He was warned by the umpire for intimidating a lineswoman, and then docked a point for smashing a racket. McEnroe was apparently unaware that a new Code of Conduct, which had been introduced just before the tournament, meant that a third code violation would not lead to the deduction of a game but instead would result in immediate disqualification; therefore, when McEnroe unleashed a volley of abuse at umpire Gerry Armstrong, he was defaulted. He was also fined $6,500 for the incidents.[24][25][26]

And that's why John McEnroe usually won. Because he got penalties but was such a good player that he made up the points in the game. If they're going to try to compare the two- John has always been a stronger player.

Wasn't there a run of Snoopy comics making fun of McEnroe?

They even put it in the cartoon. LOL, John wasn't encouraged. He became infamous for it.
