I reallly like Greg Baldwin as the new Aku, he really nails the character well. That opening sequence of episode 2 though perfect. Also I'm hoping the Scotsman makes an aperance as an old man

I know the Scotsman is confirmed to show as I've seen a trailer screencap of him as some cool cyborg elderly guy. I'm glad they decided to bring him back. He and Jack had some of the best interactions in the old series.

The only thing I don't really like about this is Aku's new voice. But I understand that it'd be quite difficult to get his old VA back now, what with him being dead and all. So it's not really a genuine fault as much as me being a nitpicky sperg.

I guess I just think they could've got someone who did a better job at impersonating Mako. I've seen voice actors replaced pretty seamlessly before, so it IS theoretically possible.

The guy replacing him was his student. It's definitely different but this is also a different Aku than he used to be, so I've accepted him as he is now.

I agree with the people who think Greg Baldwin's Aku impression is off in voice, but I do think he's nailed the character's nature, which is far more important to me. He's still Aku, one minute hilariously over the top and the next locked into that horrifying stare and rambling in monotone that STILL sends chills down my spine even to this day.

The inevitable moment that I personally can't wait for? When Aku finds out that "...you lost your sword?" and comes tearing out of his lair like a bat out of hell, sending the wrath of all he commands after Jack.

I'm so glad that they didn't go the "I have to avoid killing at all cost and will attempt to solve this peacefully even if it ruins me" route that is so common these days. Jack doesn't fuck around anymore.

One thing I like about this is that it's "mature" without being "edgy." There's a decent amount of blood and gore, and we're probably going to get a bit of swearing as it goes on (especially once the Scotsman shows up), but it isn't trying too hard by having every other word be a cuss word, and every tiny cut spray blood like a fucking fire hose.

Also, something about the design of that "inner Jack" in this episode just seemed...off.

I think the idea of Inner Jack is to represent the slow warping of his psyche as he sacrifices more and more of himself just to survive; his honor, his purpose, his unwillingness to take a human life...

Jack is a BROKEN man, folks. He just took a human life for the first time, and the EASE with which he dispatched the ones that followed is downright horrifying. It's the Batman conundrum, the thin red line of killing; once crossed, it all becomes just so easy... He looked downright apathetic as he dropped the last one to her death. Which was actually hilarious if i'm perfectly honest.

10/10 again; this may be AOTY already.

I really hope Ashi is alive. Having someone around for Jack to work off of is always a plus. And I've always had a thing for grudging team-ups.

She's a named character and has a big name VA plus she's been in the storyboard for the next few episodes so unless she's haunting Jack too she's still alive

The distorted Jack is definitely a sign of his decaying mental health, but him coming to terms with killing humans is actually a step forward. The Emperor flashback wasn't there to show how Jack's damage goes back his childhood, it was there to show he's come to terms with the fact that as a samurai and future ruler he'll sometimes have to spill blood.

If anything it's awkward this wasn't addressed before, Jack's reluctance to take lives doesn't make sense for someone who grew in a time and place where killing and dying in combat were seen as perfectly natural.

Because it was still a kid show. They couldn't actually show human death or blood. The closest they ever got to that was the two part Birth of Evil episode that showed other samurai being killed off by a primitive Aku.

Rumored finale leaks are already starting to spread online along with alleged spoiler pics from the studio. It's taking everything in my power not to look at them.
