I definitely have my fair share of autism-filled exploits of my younger days. Back when I was away from home and living on my own for the first time, and terrified of my neighbours, RP made me feel more productive in-between work. I wouldn't say I look fondly back on those days, they were most certainly cringe as fuck and I will take some stories to my grave, but they had their fun moments, and the moments of pure player petty bullshit that's funny to explain.

I don't know. You should get that prostate tumor checked.

Maybe you should try novel ai?
SagaRPG AI is fantastic for this sort of thing and not a lot of people know about it. It's conversation/character based, so it mimics the D&D experience better than other platforms. I've used it for inspiration for my story-related projects, but I could see how someone could become totally lost in just roleplaying for funsies. Some of the AI models are smart enough to recognize when you're writing for multiple different characters, even remembering nicknames and past events.

AI is an awesome tool for creatives and introverts alike, and the "creatives" who are threatened by it are not that creative in the first place.

I've never heard of that one I'll have to check it out. Novelai's new kayra model's pretty damn good with the 8k context. I've been playing around with text adventure mode and module more since they released that model and it's been pretty great. It handles conversations and multiple characters really well and it understands litrpg stuff if that's your thing. It's also been a lot better at keeping consistent with memory and lorebook entries compared to older models.

Mostly, I just like that novel ai has nothing to do with openai or gpt. They use entirely in house trained models and don't have filters or restrictions on them. Every other online llm I've found seems to either use gpt or llama and pretty much fuck facebook and openaI and most of the open source ones I've tried are kind of garbage.

No filters? Huh. Maybe I do need to give it a shot then. I thought for sure it'd be pozzed, which is why I didn't give it much a chance.

Saga has a feature that allows you to inject NSFW commands into the model, basically instructing it to play along no matter what unethical thing happens. ChatGPT 4's model outright ignores these prompts, but ChatGPT 3's 0301 model obeys the injection. These can be selected and switched between at will.

I used to RP a lot in WoW. Was fun and really helped improved my typing + overall English ability.

Loved coming up with gimmicks for interesting characters to stick out from all the 'brooding, dark, etc' folks lurking around the inns in RP hubs.

Good news: forum RPs are back, I think!

Bad news: what the actual fuck is this web design? And yes, of course they're all infested with troons and adjacent to discord servers. Didn't even need to ask.

If this (archive archive archive- all three are somewhat squished in the archive.org template so i'd recommend going to their original urls) is what the new age of forum RP is gonna look like, maybe the concept should've stayed dead. This shit is bloody unusable. Every single page lags like the dickens and the layouts are incomprehensible on PCs. I can't even capture the neverending cropped gifs scattered across these sites in the pictures i've linked but they're everywhere.

Then again, this awful design could just be a side-effect of the fact that I immediately went looking for the most braindead mainstream franchises I knew for any hint of life from forum RPs as a whole. Maybe the more original stuff is a little better-looking- oh, no...

...at least it's original? The sites stand out, I'll give them that. And i'm glad people in the modern day are using websites for roleplay at all. I just wish the sites they made were more usable...

I'm going to link the best of these sites here because I think it's genuinely well-made in comparison to the rest. It's still obviously a forum, but it's made with style and in a way that's very easy to read and interface with. Can't comment on the userbase- I'm just assuming it's full of the same types. No guarantees of quality if you, for whatever reason, wish to join.

All of these efforts seem to be rather new- I think the oldest site i've found is from 2021- and all seem to stem from tumblr, explaining the discords and interconnectivity. A lot of these sites have the same hundred-or-so affiliates and very little in the way of variety. Lots of grimdark or fluffy romantic shit with no in-between. This isn't a rabbithole yet, but I can tell that it might become one later down the line. Will be keeping my eyes open for any developments.
