I doubt that most Chinese and Koreans online speak fluent English, so I'd guess most are Americans who most likely don't speak Japanese, probably had a culture shock and read some sensationalist Western news articles about Japan.

Personally, all these takes about the controversial side of the country are nothing more than a revival of the racist Orientalist view on Japan that paints the country as an exotic, mysterious and weird place. No to mention they seem very reactionary just to dunk on weebs.

The redditors are undoubtedly first-world Westerners who are angry about people liking Japan for being an ethnically homogenous, clean country. They'll go on screeds about "ackchyually Japan is poor and everyone gets bullied blah blah blah" and then try to convince you that Japan is actually progressive because they have a celebrity that's a crossdresser. They've been doing this forever.

Chinese tend to stay in their own circles and hate on Japan there. The ironic part is that rich Chinese visit Japan every week and spend thousands on clothes, half of China is addicted to FGO, and their own mobile games all rip Japanese aesthetics off.

Korea's a mixed bag. You have the nationalists who absolutely hate Japan, but those are mainly middle-aged and fanatic Twittards. A lot of young Koreans actually like Japan and plenty of them are weeb gooners (Dorontabi etc.) because Korean women are some of the most toxic in the world. This is the country that made Blue Archive, after all.

To be fair despite nationality or race, men will always be fundamentally and psychologically attracted to a woman even as an imaginary concept. But I agree the lack of self awareness in these particular Japanese men is even more weird when the women are cartoon characters specifically.

You could just as easily say the same about there being a ton of gooks and chinks who hate japs, yet Korea and China are two huge importers of Japanese media and there's a lot of Korean and Chinese artists making porn of anime girls.

I don't feel like this is exclusive to Asians. I think if you looked at any geographic location where there were various groups of people from seperate empires relatively close together this would be the case. The thing that comes to mind is how much general hatred there is between like Ireland, Scotland, The UK, and like France. Obviously its not as bad in 2026 as it has been in the past, but it has been that way in the past.

Maybe that enjoyment of characters from Korea and China is just "separate the art from the artist" -- a skill that seems to be lacking nowadays -- and not lack of awareness?

When Japanese women crack, they absolutely crack. I don't know if it's the culture that teaches them to keep their problems to themselves, or if it's stress, but a perfectly nice, normal OL can turn into a bunny boiler in seconds. The scary part is that menhera is a subculture at this point, and you have ordinary high school girls idolizing being psycho.

From my experience (married to a JP), Japanese women are very possessive and demanding of their husbands/boyfriends, so a menhera stabbing her boyfriend 96 times is probably the endgame of that mindset.

tbh as much as i shit on the japs, the shit they write/draw/make/do/say is just so endearing i cant help but love.
I feel like no one but a jap could write metal gear or dark souls. yeah theyre weird and yeah they have their weird fetishs but
stuff like chainsaw man would be too weird for american execs and their manga industry is alot like youtube.
