Yeah I had the CHD file for that downloaded. I've just been going through a good chunk of the Saturn of recent, both translated and untranlsated and it really is just a special console. It's a shame it didn't seemingly really do all that well anywhere that wasn't Japan.

Maybe if SEGA Japan wasn't actively at war with SEGA of America they might have done a bit better.

I still think the VMU is one of the coolest things a retro console did ever. I was enamored by those things as a kid to the point where I think I was more familiar with the VMU itself over the actual console where it came from.

I still think the VMU is one of the coolest things a retro console did ever. I was enamored by those things as a kid to the point where I think I was more familiar with the VMU itself over the actual console where it came from.

The VMU was severely crippled by its insanely awful battery life on expensive button cells. They'd have been better off making it run on AAA or AA batteries. At least the memory was flash and not volatile in them.

On the other hand, going with one stick and four face buttons and making vibration an extra add-on was retardation beyond any acceptable level.

Ive flown an excessive amount... i would never put an electric device into checked baggage. Haven't had many issues. Had my luggage lost once and returned and had a leather jacket stolen out of one.

Two bad experiences in... likely close to 50 flights? That said had to sue them to recover the loss of the jacket they refused compensation.

You know the airline industry doesn't care about your stuff when there is an actual museum of lost luggage.

Is there anybody in the thread who owned a Sega Saturn back in the day? I was posting about Panzer Dragoon Saga in the JRPG Thread (it's a great game btw!) and it had me vaguely interested in what it was like since like 70-80% of the library was locked behind Japan. I feel like I lucked out since most of the more popular foreign entries are getting translated more often now than ever.

I had one. Got it for $50 in FuncoLand with a copy of Virtua Fighter 2. Eventually I got more games for it. My library for it was:

• Rayman
• WipEout
• Bug!
• Virtua Fighter 1
• Dark Legend (a.k.a. Suiko Enbu / Outlaws Of The Lost Dynasty)
• Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge
• Gex

I highly recommend all of them except Gex. Play the 3DO version if you can, the fact that it has a built-in save feature instead of the stupid password system that the Saturn/PS1 versions use (that don't even save lives) make it 10x better. Also Saturn WipEout has a different soundtrack. It still keeps the 7 CoLD SToRAGE songs but removes "Transvaal" and the other non CoLD SToRAGE songs ( Leftfield - "Afro-Ride", The Chemical Brothers - "Chemical Beats", Orbital - "P.E.T.R.O.L (Wipeout Mix)") in exchange for 3 Rob Lord & Mark Bandola songs (Brickbat, Planet 9, Poison)

When Blockbuster was still a thing I also rented a couple games. Battle Arena Toshinden Remix was one of them, and it's basically the 1st game except it has poorly voice-acted cutscenes between matches and adds another secret boss. Fighters Megamix is THE 3d Saturn fighter everyone should have because it's basically Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers in one game with secret characters like Bark and Bean from Sonic Fighters (no Pepsi-Man though).

It was also the only sega system I didn't have a sonic title for. 3D Blast I had for PC (only difference between the saturn version is the special stages, which look cheap on the PC version). Same for Sonic R.

Virtual On is a Saturn must play. Mech fighting game, arcade port. The PC port was quite good.

it's basically Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers in one game with secret characters like Bark and Bean from Sonic Fighters (no Pepsi-Man though).

The downside is that it's imbalanced as all get out, but quite fun if you can get past that.

After Myrient went bust but before Minerva is fully up and running, I found that planetemu.net is a great resource of a lot of my retro gaming needs whenever a new fan translation comes. I miss the old layout, even though the new layout is just an update of the previous one.

By the by, the names the website uses is rather inconsistent: 'Game Boy', 'GBA', and 'Nintendo DS'. Also, Game Boy Color games are under 'Game Boy'.

I don't think that there was much of a chance. Sure, maybe if the launch wasn't botched and Sonic had a real game, they still would've gotten smoked by their competitors. Are we still assuming the 32X was launched?

Depends whether or not:

1. Atari would have released the Jaguar still
2. If someone more competent in Sega didn't shit their pants over the Jaguar

Because that's literally the only reason the 32X existed in the first place

It's pretty easy to mod. It's great for emulating older consoles and is arguably the best way to play PSP games. As for the PSVita's own library, a lot of it is JRPGs, inferior ports of PS3 games, or ports of indie games you can get on Steam. They are great to have on-the-go, though.

There are more powerful handhelds you can buy today, but seeing as you already own a Vita, I'd say go for it.

If you got a PSP near launch you could just run homebrew on it with no effort. The JP 1.0 ones didn't ship with any signature checks so it just ran. With 1.5 that launched in America they tightened things up but somehow if you added a folder with the same name plus a "%" homebrew just ran. Even before the lumines thing I used Wipeout Pure's web browser to launch homebrew on newer firmware.

I knew one dude in middle school that had a Saturn. Everyone else who owned a newer console back then either had a PSX or 64z

I didn’t get a Saturn until the 2000s.

I legit got a Saturn a few months ago for $40 from a pawn shop and bought one of the carts (got a chinese knock-off one Saroo, I think it's called on amazon) for $90 or so you can stick in the back and play the ISO's off a SD card in the back. (it's also the memory expansion cart too so you can play all the fighting games with it) Also lets you play burned discs.

I've heard there is some issues with the loading speeds using it but I've not noticed it much. Me and a buddy played through a few of the beat em ups on it a couple weeks ago and had a good time.

Looks like shit on a plasma / LCD tv though.
