Britain's Observer newspaper said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was expected to resign on Monday and set out a timetable ‌for his departure, though a government source said Starmer remained focused on getting on with the job of governing.

The threat to Starmer's position, which has been building for months, increased sharply on Friday when his rival Andy Burnham won a seat in parliament that would allow him to launch a formal leadership challenge.

The Observer report said Starmer was discussing the matter with his wife at his Chequers country residence before making a final decision, but that senior Labour figures expected a clear statement on his ‌future as early as Monday.

However, a government source said Starmer remained focused on his job and pointed to previous statements he has made to that effect.

The British leader said on Friday he would fight any challenge to his position and urged Labour not to tear itself apart with infighting.

More than 100 elected lawmakers in his party - roughly a quarter of all Labour representatives in the House of Commons - have publicly said they want Starmer to quit or set out a timetable for his exit.

Finally happened, good fucking riddance. Sadly Burnham will act similar to Starmer, complete with throwing billions to Ukraine without public consent.

Get on a dinghy and never come back, Two Tier Keir.

England will be free again. But we have unfortunately passed the point where this can happen bloodlessly.
If the chavs actually start lynching then I will put aside my American pride and submit to British chad supremacy.

Also lol lmao are they really pretending this has nothing to do with the rape gang report gaining far more traction than wanted/expected?

So, who's his replacement? Is he just as pozzed? Is he more charismatic than the plank of wood that was Starmer? Is he fucked anyways, and will Reform and Restore sweep the country and wipe out the Tories and Labor forever? Will anything ever happen?
The "smart" money is Andy Burnham. He's a lot more left-wing than Starmer ever was, so make your own conclusions about that one.

A shitlib friend of mine was just bragging to me the other day how the Britcuck shitlibs had to carpetbag this Burnham faggot into parliament by forcing out a different member in Makerfield, Josh Simons, who was in a bit of controversy over using the spy powers of government to investigate the private lives of journalists who wrote critical articles about his think tank. Makerfield is a podunk district that nobody gives a fuck about, and probably the safest seat for Labour in the entire shitty country. Burnham doesn't even live in the district, and won't give a fuck about representing them in the least. He's going to represent himself.

So if they are already pulling gay stunts like this just to weasel this Burnham queer into office, all so he can be eligible to run for prime minister in the first place, then the deal must already be sealed. Who else even has an ego big enough to think they have a shot?

Anglo-friends, is the Rupert Lowe Inquiry responsible for his resignation, or is it a nothingburger ? I have a hard time to process UK politics, as a French, our systems are way to different.
Nothing to do with it. The mainstream media aren't even acknowledging the Lowe report. This has everything to do with Keir Starmer being an incompetent twat and also maybe partially the fallout from the Mandelson scandal

I think almost nothing will change. Same old Labour party is still in charge.
Only difference is that new guy is going to be temporarily less hated than Starmer is right now
Keep in mind that UK had 6 PM in last decade. Number 7 is unlikely to change fundamental facts.

Unironically Trump admin is responsible. Before him resigning Elon Musk highlighted Britain's rape and immigration issues by retweeting news about it plus the two tier policing. The British responded demanding twitter to be investigated and fined. That went well as you can think with Trump admin and they probably did something behind the scenes to make him leave before Britain explodes. I do think the Belfast riots was the final nail in the coffin, and usa doesn't want unstable Britain yet .

The "hatred" of Starmer is entirely confected. His problem is his blandness and his lack of principles - he doesn't have the ability to inspire hatred outside of online echo chamers.

Whoever the new PM is will be equally "hated" because hate is measured in hashtags, not genuine feeling. We no longer have political consensus we have polarisation, and unless a future PM somehow enjoys the support of 90% of the population, there will always be people who want somebody else to be in charge, and "hate" the incumbent as a result.

I mean not really though, Starmer was already wildly unpopular amongst the British public, including left-wing voters, and the recent by-election in Makersfield was an opportunity for a more popular MP like Andy Burnham to switch up the leadership for Labour and salvage the party's reputation. Now, I don't believe that's going to happen, but they're trying.

In short:

Sir Keir Starmer has announced he will step as prime minister of the United Kingdom.

He said he will remain as caretaker prime minister while a new Labour leader is chosen in the next few weeks.

What's next?

Ex-mayor of Greater Manchester and new Labour MP Andy Burnham is expected to vy for the leadership position.

Sir Keir Starmer says he will resign as prime minister of the United Kingdom.

He said his decision came after speaking with the King earlier today, local time, and was in the best interests of the country.

He will remain as caretaker prime minister until a new Labour leader is chosen in the next few weeks.

Sir Keir made the announcement after facing growing pressure to hand over to a new leader who can try to revive the government’s flagging fortunes

He has been in office since leading Labour to a landslide election victory in July 2024.

In those two years, his popularity and that of the party have plummeted.

His departure follows the victory of popular ex-mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham in a special election last week.

Burnham is due to be sworn in as a member of Parliament today, local time.

Are they going to replace him with someone who's not a huge fag or is the PM required to be a UK citizen?

It has absolutely nothing to do with it.
No, it definitely contributed. Starmer went out of his way to prevent any such inquiry taking place and has been slow-walking the current attempt at establishing one. All that information gaining broad public attention in the past few days, particularly related to how the CPS under Starmer's tenure outright refused to prosecute rapists (instead sending them form warning letters), on top of the multiple other scandals he's been directly involved in, coupled with his direct intervention to raid the military budget at a time when the armed forces are on the verge of collapse, made his position untenable. If it had been just that, or just the Mandelson drama, or just the rape gang inquiry, he probably could have survived it, but the three in quick succession destroyed any remaining credibility he had.

So what is it exactly that made him decide to resign? General disapproval? I've been out of the loop for months.
Belfast riots . Anyone in the "happenings " community said it wasn't normal riot it was very organised with tight opsec and very targeted . That means the population is organising not just that but the methods and details spread among other right wing groups asking why arent we doing at our town this .

It genuinely spooked everyone and there was zero talk about it after . They desperately trying to memory hole it
