My favourite religious song of all time, LCaoineadh na dTrí Muire (The Lament of the Three Marys).

Peter,Apostle, Did you see my fair love?
woe is me and woe is me!
I saw him a moment ago, get tortured by the guard
woe is me and woe is me!
Who is that fine man on the cross of Passion?
woe is me and woe is me!
Do you recognize him, your son, little Mother?
woe is me and woe is me!
Is that the little son who was nursed at Mary's breast?
woe is me and woe is me!
Is that the little son who was born in a stable?
woe is me and woe is me!
Is that the little son whom I carried for three seasons?
woe is me and woe is me!
Dear little son your mouth and little nose are cut,
woe is me and woe is me! B
are nails were put through his feet, and through his hands,
woe is me and woe is me!
A spear was put through his lovely breast.
woe is me and woe is me!

The most Jesusy rock songs; Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, Queen, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead

I've had this chant stuck in my head since my first Paschal service. Its comforting to me and I like to sometimes sing it softly to myself.

The Irish hymn "Duan Chroí Íosa" was written in the late 18th century, when Irish Catholics were oppressed under the Penal Law imposed by the English.

I had hoped to find the version in Hector Zazou's album Lights in The Dark. That version, accompanied by Japanese koto, Galician bagpipes, and delicate electronics, is quite otherworldly. Unfortunately it is not available on youtube, so here is a plainer rendition.

Here is a track, a version of "The Keening of Three Marys", from Lights in The Dark I can find on Youtube, so you can hear what the pancultural "Zazou treatment" is.

"Help Lord the souls that thou hast made" based on a poem by St John Henry Newman, for the souls in purgatory

Bros I need your help

There's this song I found once while listening to Catholic psychedelic synth folk. It's like a sermon or something, I think Catholic but maybe not (it's not a mass, it's English preaching). It's really funky (as in, has a kind of funk rhythm and instruments to it) and I think the album cover/photo on the YouTube video was a black-and-white photo of a preacher.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

I just started a reggae thread but this song belongs here:

"Christ fed the multitude with only one loaf of bread, poor people there is something for you."

I wouldn't exactly classify these songs as "Religious Music" but they are pretty close and I like them

Litany of Saints from St John Paul II's funeral. Instead of "ora pro nobis" (pray for us) they are singing "ora pro eo" (pray for him) here.
