"Deep Peace", set to music by Bill Douglas.

Deep peace of the running wave to you
Deep peace of the flowing air to you
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you
Deep peace of the shining stars to you
Deep peace of the gentle night to you
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you
Deep peace (of Christ) to you

The verse is said to be an ancient Gaelic blessing, but its earliest occurrence is in the work of the 19th century Celtic Revival writer William Sharp ("Fiona MacLeod"). My church sometimes sing this verse at the conclusion of Sunday Service (though not to this melody)

Here is an earlier version for solo female voice. The vocalist is Jane Grimes

British composer John Rutter has made another setting of this verse. I don't normally listen to Rutter; I find he relies too much on easy solutions. But whenever I read an interview of him I feel the urge to take out all his CDs and play them. Rutter is genuinely astounded and humbled by his own popularity, and he is grateful that his music has been able to reach and transform so many people, often at the most momentous events of their lives -- childbirth, marriage, and around death's door.

A rousing and richly-arranged piece, "St. Patrick in the Spirit" by John Doan, from his album Eire, Isle of the Saints.

“Crist lim, Crist rium
Crist imdegaid, Crist innium
Crist issum, Crist uasum
Crist dessum, Crist tuathum
Crist illius, Crist issius,
Crist inerus Crist icridiu cechduine immimrorda
Crist ingin cechoen rodomlabrathar
Crist incechrusc nomdercaedar
Crist incechcluais rodamcloathar.”

“Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ in me,
Christ below me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in breadth, Christ in length, Christ in height
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me
Christ in every eye that sees me
Christ in every ear that hears me.”
