Lord Halifax, then secretary of state to UK, wanted and encouraged war with Germany, using Poland as an excuse. He was the man who convinced Chamberlain to offer the guarantee to Poland, offer support to France, and issued an ultimatum to Germany. He quite simply explains that the guarantee to Poland was never about peace, it was about Anglo dominance. If UK was so concerned with Polish survival and freedom, one would think they would have declared war on the Soviets after their invasion, or not given them to the Soviets when they asked.
