Them being directly responsible for the Sequel Trilogy probably spooked them. Now they're afraid to criticize woke movies and TV because they think Hollywood will suddenly put Michael Bay or Mel Gibson in charge of the next big epic.
I don't think people remember how wealthy The Passion made Mel Gibson. He self-financed the whole thing for less than $30 million and it made over half a billion. He took home over half of that.

He has had fuck you money for the past 20 years and anything we've gotten from him since has been by his own grace.

I saw a clip of him replying to being asked about being cancelled by Hollywood by saying "They didn't cancel me, I cancelled them. They still call me and I just hang up."
