Yea the thought of him obtaining a gun isn't a prity one, he is the kind of guy who get's a gun not for a legitimate reason like hunting, target shooting or for engineering / historical reasons he'd get himself a Saturday night special in some ungodly powerful round that he will never clean or use properly in the slightest. But he would be quick on the draw when some one didn't cow tow his demands, and thats when things get sqiffy.
But in all likelyhood that's not going to happen, no legitimate gun shop would sell him a gun*, and he'd have to associate with scary people to buy one illegally and he is to much of a coward to do that.
*= I'm from the UK and own gun's and our process is vastly different for getting a licence than it is in the USA but I am aware that handguns require some for of waiting period an background check, and the process varies from state to state (maybe even county to county?) and a if I'm not mistaken they can refuse to sell him one anyway if they believed that he was going to do something dangerous / illegal with it.
Given that most brand new pistols start at ~$500, he's not going to give up his tattoo fund for that.
