Same difference, probably. He doesn't seem too keen on actually joining, he just wants a "certified badass"-sticker on himself to validate himself as someone who isn't a 23-year old NEET daydreaming about feats of badassitude while being repressed by his mother and facing an uncertain future which'll involve getting a job and responsibilities.
