Am I misunderstanding or is this not a pretty typical component of hetero male sexuality?
Hetero male + also all people on the planet are either straight, gay, bisexual, or one of the incredibly rare asexuals. Which ever one of those you are, the human that is a match for your sexuality is also a match for your romantic interests. Ex, a gay man would be presumed to have sex with men and to be romantically interested in men. This example gay man might like goth men and male furries and football players but all of those interests are male.
The Split Attraction Model supposes that people can hold different orientations simultaneously. Is a mix 'n match (straight, gay, bisexual, asexual) sexual interest, with (straight, gay, bisexual, asexual) romanic interest. Theoretically someone could be
romantically gay and
sexually straight but most of the world just calls this bisexuality because who gives a shit exactly what percentage your romance level is to one sex vs the other.
In practice it's always stuff like this- A gay man that exclusively has sex with men and has only dated men, but thinks he would be fine in a sexless marriage with his female bff because they're such good friends. Well with all these fun and funky new words, if that gay man was a cluster B he could choose to call himself a homosexual biromantic. This approach says romance and sex interests have different full sexualities.
It's all very silly and can be a cover up for fear of intimacy/ lack of success in dating/ not addressing baggage/ qweer asspats. Straight virgins can be fluffed up to "heterosexual biromantic" (because they'll never date and it's easy to lie) with this taxonomy, and people who have same sex best friends can be fluffed up to "asexual homoromantic", etc etc.
So yah there's variance in the types of people hetero men (and everyone imo) are interested in, but the diff is the scale of having a type vs holding multiple orientations making you part of the kuhweer kummunity.
