Queen was not a very good band. - Their music is bad.

75 bands, 16 hours of music, a stadium audience of 72 thousand, a live tv audience of around 1.9 Billion, no sound check, no rehearsal and a 15 minute set, and they still stole the show at Live Aid.

Live AIDS was super gay, though, and didn't feed anyone, and instead made the murderous warlords who deliberately created the famine in Ethiopia even more powerful, feeding their troops so they could murder their citizens more energetically. Bob Geldof may be the most complicit white man in African war crimes of all history.

I like Queen actually, both their earlier rock/prog kind of stuff and their later campier stuff. Props to May for having a one of a kind custom guitar, too.
Also since the Beatles are coming up in this thread they're pretty alright. Not like astonishingly good or what have you but a lot of their songs are classics that I enjoy.

Now if you want a truly overrated band, look no further than Kiss.
I've never met a single KISS fan born after the seventies. People know the name, the look, and that they're supposed to be "cool", but I've never met anybody younger who actually bought an album. But they sell plenty of T-shirts to the people who buy T-shirts for bands they absolutely never listen to.

I don't think anyone ever really liked KISS back in the day either. It was just a signal that you drank Boone's Farm and were DTF.

Call me weird but my favorite Queen Album is Innuendo.

My music prefs lie in the groups and artists of the 60s and 70s for most part. The bulk of the music I enjoy comes from that era.

Queen is a band that is from that era I enjoy. But they do not really rank for me. Like a few have said, they are ok, have some good songs, but on a whole, they aren't the type of band for me where I would/could listen to all their albums and love 99% of the songs on them. A handful of songs by Queen I like and if I hear them I don't cringe, but when I listen to music, I never choose their songs.

They don't quite fit in to my main groups I enjoy. My avatar, Doors, Deep Purple, Who, PF, Rush, Ten Years After, Cream, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Bros, etc. are ones that get heavy rotation when I am enjoying music. Queen just doesn't fit in to the sound of these groups. I feel same to some degree about Yes or Genesis. But I even pick those two over Queen.

Its not that they are horrible or their music completely sucks, they just have a sound that doesn't make the hair on the back of my neck stand up like the other groups I mentioned. Same with Bowie. Some songs I dig, but on a whole, he doesn't jibe with the type of sounds I like to be blasted with.

I understand a disliking or disinterest Queen's music as an audio experience, but I enjoy them thoroughly when it comes to both their live performances and music video artistry. Even as a fan, I don't find myself revisiting the greatest hits compilation too often, let alone the whole albums. The videos and some of the live shows however are much more enthralling and dynamic, making them far more timeless than Queens music itself imo. Anyhow, I think they've earned their spot in history through influence itself, and would disagree their discography as a whole is bad, especially compared to other bands from the same era of popularity

I think the crucial thing that made Queen a great band was the charisma of Freddie Mercury. Their musical composition was good enough, but it was Mercury's operatic vocals and flamboyant persona that really distinguished them from everyone else. In the various lists people compile of "the greatest rock and roll frontmen of all time", Mercury frequently tops the list, and is almost unanimously ranked in the top 3. I don't think anyone else can boast that distinction.

I hate Queen. Especially Bohemian Rhapsody. That song is embarrassing.
Kiss Sucked 100% too.
The Beatles were important and I don't hat any of their albums like I do Queen but they truly might be the most overrated band to this day.
Nirvana was the Pixies with more screaming and better guitar and drums

Nirvana may be overrated but they are better and distinct from the Pixies, especially on Bleach
The Pixies is far overrated in thier own right, same goes for the Breeders. Really, Kim Deal in general.

Queen is GOAT. Freddie Mercury might have been gay, but OP will always be a faggot.

they had a great greatest hits cd. I wouldn't bother listening to the discography.

I have the "red" Queen Greatest Hits CD from the early 1990s which is mostly all of their best songs but it doesn't have "Bohemian Rhapsody", which you had to buy Classic Queen ("blue") to get even though something like 75% of Classic Queen is their forgettable 1980s output.

I'm not sure how "Body Language" was considered worthy of the "Greatest Hits" CD and "Bohemian Rhapsody" wasn't unless it was just a ploy to get people to buy both CD's.
