The retarded part is, by embracing the stereotype, you admit that they're true to some degree. This doesn't have to be a bad thing I do think stereotypes have some truth to them. For example, I believe slaves could only afford things like watermelon, and that's why black people are stereotyped to REALLY like watermelon. The thing there's a right way and a wrong way to embrace stereotypes. If I made a show that dealt with the watermelon thing, I'd show how its kinda fucked up how black people today are picked at for something their ancestors did for survival. It was watermelons or nothing, not like they had some inherent desire to consume the disgusting green and red fruit.
That's what pisses me off about these SJW leftist types who rail against ALL stereotypes, because they only focus on the bad ones and ironically become a stereotype themselves for being out of touch with reality and screaming about whatever. Stereotypes are a shorthand mechanism of our own consciousness to categorize what we know about things to better understand them.
For example, the CW: the stereotype of any show on it is that said show is going to be brain dead shit pandering to a minority of a minority.
On the other hand, you have the original PPG themselves because each of the three are in of themselves stereotypes of girls. Blossom is the smart one who is the leader most of the time, Bubbles is the girly girl sweetie of the group, and Buttercup is your rough-and-tumble tomboy who is effectively the complete opposite of Bubbles and vice versa. Stereotypes are not inherently
bad. Trying to abolish stereotypes without actually addressing the reason why such stereotypes exist (I.E. the reason black people get negatively portrayed all the time is because they happen to come from really shitty areas with low opportunities to actually improve their lives)
is. Its just another form of virtue signaling.
What the CW did here is equivalent to black people running out with guns and hijacking a watermelon truck while blasting 50 cent. Actually hilariously racist.
That sounds like a joke mission from Payday 2.
Bane: "Alright crew, we need to hijack that truck full of watermelons because they're actually hollowed out and smuggling cocaine inside of them for the mafia...wait, is the radio player stuck blasting 50 cent? Whatever, just go! This can't be as bad as the goat job!"
(And for those unaware, there is in fact a Payday 2 mission where you have to get cocaine being smuggled inside
goats. It was a crossover with Goat Simulator of all things).
I notice people applaud the ATTEMPT at subverting expectations regardless of if it worked or made sense. That's annoying for obvious reasons.
The equivalent of the participation trophy in this industry.
So, his name was Dick Hardly? Cartoons were tons of fun back in the day. Which reminds me, what would professor dick be like in this? A rapist?
I mean he’s already in the show, his name is Drake Utonium
The CW show is in fact an alt. universe where Dick Hardly and Prof. Utonium actually switched places.
Goddammit, this reboot is already ruining the original show-- oh, I'm sorry, the sanitized marketing product that prettied everything up and made the characters look like good people for the sake of making a quick buck-- for me. When I see those scenes, I can't help but feel it's all fake. Utonium doesn't
actually love the girls. He's only
pretending to love the girls so he can make money. This isn't how he
actually feels! They're actually just
disposable to him! He prettied them up and made them all look good so he can make money!
"Please. They're only little girls who are probably cold, scared, and maybe even... lost."
All lies.
Fucking hell. What am I supposed to do now?
Which
really raises questions when it comes to Mojo Jojo, since there is the cartoon episode where he cons his way into making the Professor treat him like a son (and ultimately he is horrified to learn he was responsible for the 'accident' that introduced Chem. X into the girls)
In the CW version, Mojo is a human and was the Prof's assistant...kind of super creepy for the Prof to consider that guy his
son. Then again, this version of Utonium is super fucking horrible so creepy is just a drop in the ocean of shit this is becoming.
If we're all discussing the pilot script, I've read it and it's awful. Why is Buttercup a lesbian?
She's the tomboy and all tomboys have to be lesbians. According to these people.
