I'm playing through the Gen 6 Battle Maison to try to get some guys some ribbons before I transfer them up. Holy shit this gameplay is so fucking gay.
Almost every single enemy team has some sort of defense / recovery / luck spam. All they need is to get sent out in front of one of your guys who doesn't have the coverage to 1-hit KO them (very likely in singles) so that they can set up their defenses or use nonsense like sleep / paralysis / Double Team / Attract to keep you from hitting them, then they heal up with Rest / Moonlight / Leech Seed / Leftovers / fucking Ingrain once their defenses are high, and they just PP stall you forever.
Who enjoys this?
I view the Battle Tower (and clones) as basically like a complex slot machine. Once you set up a team that can reasonably win most of the time, then you're mostly just throwing the same flow chart strategy at everything and only getting tripped up by getting lucksacked by some status or accuracy check or running into a team that happens to directly counter yours. So it feels like there's only so many short-term tactical decisions you're making, mostly when something goes wrong, and mostly you're just kind of watching your team go brrrrr and watching how the luck-based elements play out.

That was such a cool cutscene.
  • Clouds part
  • Church organs play
  • Rayquaza slowly lowers to Groundon and Kyogre
  • "SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
  • Groundon and Kyogre shit their pants and leave.

We can discuss ROM hacks here right?

Because I actually tried playing that popular rom Pokémon Lazarus and the game actually had pride flags in almost all the houses…Never shut off the game faster (I mean there were other problems with the game but this shit was the limit)

The sheer amount of people going “ERM YOU GONNA LET A FEW PIXELS RUIN YOUR EXPERIENCE?” reminds me of the sedan meme in a fantasy setting.

Yeah it’s fucking distracting to use a real ass flag in a fantasy setting. I don’t give a shit about programmer’s thoughts but that shit is distracting and lazy advocacy.

Its disappointing because it seems a lot of Pokémon rom hackers are either trannies or are tranny supporters who gotta sneak in trans rights or the flag in the game….
Lazarus is a wet fart of a game. The only good thing is the Zoo. That was fun to capture pokemon for a mission instead of just numbers in the dex or putting important items behind it.

I posted my thoughts about Lazarus some pages ago but now that more time has passed I started to even fail to articulate why this game is dogshit. It is so bland that it hurts. Even with an original region and having the ability to so something great technically, it just gives up in the late game.

The tranny dev will try to demake Alola game and he should stick to it, since he clearly shows that he doesn't understand what makes a pokemon game tick.

And this is someone who played the latest version, the original was even worse.

I played some hacks last year even before this that still lives rent free in my mind (Altair, Vega)

I’m currently playing Odyssey and it’s been pretty fun. The battle background art and Pokémon sprites are very well done. Story is neat and not trying too hard.

Remember the days of pokemania around 2000?

Kiwi Farms remembers.

I can still recall the height of all that 'mons hype, around the time the first movie came out. Fast food stuff, marketing on that "Lunchables" stuff, Mew downloading events at malls, the older anime on TV, the card game, the vidya of the card game, card game magazines, marketing on school supplies, "fundies" claiming the franchise is demonic...

God even more single prize card decks winning this weekend.
Making mega cards even more dogshit because how the fuck are you suppose to play a 3 prize card that is somehow worse than dragonpault that gets 1 shot by the gayest gimmick decks around.

This meta just keeps getting worse and worse lol.

Just watched this off my recommended feed (haven't seen Linneus video on a while), but I wondered if any Kiwis messed around with the Archipelago program he mentioned at the start of the video before he goes into how he used it to pull Platinum apart and stitch things together.

I’ve played quite a few Gen 3 hacks but never played RSE proper aside from getting most of the way through Sapphire 20+ years ago, so I just recently completed my first playthrough via Emerald Mini. For the hack itself, I like how it cuts the overworld down to (mostly) its bare essentials, like you get more or less the same experience but more condensed. There are some nice optional additions like a building to train specific EVs, but I don’t like some of the mandatory changes like most gyms and the Elite Four requiring you to battle every trainer in succession without a chance to heal/use items, and Zinnia randomly appearing out of nowhere as the Champion.

As for Emerald itself… I just don’t like it that much, I’m sorry. I really wanted to. Call me a genwunner/twoer, but Gen 3 always struck me as being much less ambitious than the first two, and felt very safe in comparison. I also greatly value music in games, and RSE is a huge step down with a lot of the songs feeling same-y and forgettable (to be fair, I played a lot of the game in fast forward, but I still listened to each song at least once). There’s nothing I hate about the game or anything - the graphics and Pokemon designs are good, the villains are interesting, and of course the addition of new mechanics like abilities - but I don’t know, I don’t see myself doing another playthrough. If I get a Gen 3 itch in the future, I’ll just replay FRLG again or try one of the thousand rom hacks. Or maybe I’m just retarded for doing my first full playthrough with Mini. Though I’ve also heard that a lot of the appeal comes from postgame, so maybe I need to keep going and try the battle frontier? Also contests, but those felt like an RNG fest. Otherwise I’ll move on to Platinum since my only DPP playthrough was Diamond when it first released.

I like seeing collectors freaking out about why a common card is going for $5 and trying to explain it because they're crypto faggots and retards that don't actually play the game, which would explain everything.

So you substituted the gen 3 game with one of their best elements (the whole map) to a mini version of it that just showcases the battles and says it wasn't good?

And less ambitious how? What it doesn't do to advance the formula? The entire point of the first 4-5 gen games is that they were adding stuff to the game and not taking it off like other games after.

Nowadays there is a reason to why people rate gen 3 as this good. The leap of it between gen 1 to 2 and gen 2 to 3 is that great. And with romhacks that also bring in future features like physical/special split, we get a quite balanced gameplay between old pokemon games and new ones.

Even a base emerald game without hacks is leagues better than whatever came before. And I don't even play battle frontier, for those who like it is even better.
