whats the point of building suspense when hardly anything notable actually happens?
To me it's hilarious to see this criticism directed at Vince's shows, when I'd argue it's the only one where anything happens.
Yes, they are very slow, but things do happen, just very slowly and sometimes subtly. At times, he sets up a scene to convey a particular analogy or metaphor, which only becomes clear later. Rewatch Better Call Saul, and notice all the seeds he planted in episodes where people believed nothing happened.
And now take any other show. Most of them, all you need to watch is the first and last episode of any season and that's it. Everything in between is filler and if you didn't watch it, nothing changes. In fact I have done one such experiment with a cobra kai season, watched first and last episode and felt like I missed nothing. The same isn't true for Vince's shows.
The thing is, with Vince you have to see everything as a character study, and thematic expressions. His team is composed not by event-centric writers, who try to make an interesting set of events, but by thematic or character-centric writers. Watching it as any other slop is like trying to watch Kubrick at surface value.
this show isnt insteresting because the core character is a dyke in the mids of her midlife crisis. add all the scifi shit on top of that but the character is highly unlikeable.
Sadly, however, I can't argue against this. Carol as a character took a downward spiral as soon as the end of the second episode. She's unconsistently stupid, smart, cunning or naive as convenience dictates.
