Defeating this hive mind seems incredibly easy. Just get one alone, and scream at it. Keep screaming at it for 3 days, and the whole lot of them will be dead from dehydration. The other 11 might try to stop you, but there is no way they can even reach you without their help.
And yet the main character, an American who embodies ideals rejected by nearly all of the countries that have un-hive minded people, is the hero of the story whom is trying to reverse everything.
That does not undo the propaganda effects of showing selfless people working happily and efficiently for the greater good, vs the angry self destructive drunk individual, who produces nothing of worth.
This show is basically soft propaganda for communism. Showing how smoothly things would work if we would just become selfless drones who work for the good of our comrades.
Interesting, because I drew a completely different conclusion. I saw the Hive portrayed as soulless. Proritizing efficiency for an arbitrary goal over valueing indivduality. I did not get the vibe that the Hive was portrayed as "the right way to live".
To me, the Hive is a commentary on society itself. Whether that society is Stalinist communist, or cocaine capitalist, a society stops being worth living in the second it begins valueing some pointless goal over the individuality for those living in it.
I don't really care that Carol is a carpet muncher tbh. A show having a gay character doesn't necessarily make it "woke". She's a pretty realistic portrayal of a Santa Fe upper class lesbian— warts and all. Pretentious, alcoholic, self absorbed. She distracts herself with the blandest art she can find, because she wants to identify as someone of class.
My bet is that they'll probably reveal she had some sexual trama early in her life in the later seasons. Maybe after the hive turns on her and tries to manipulate her against blowing up their antenna.
Carol is a very realistic character. A woke show wouldn't have portrayed her as realistically.
This makes me question if you were even paying attention while watching. Her books sucked. The hive outright told her that even her wife thought her books where nothing special.
The show is definitely not perfect. There are some pretty big plot holes as it currently stands. Forget someone intentionally freezing the hive... When they were originally taking over, not one person yelled at a spouse? A co worker? Screamed at someone in traffic? I feel like it would be very obvious something was wrong the second a Billion people had a siezure.

Take for instance the scene with the communal sleeping, where they work together to tenderly lower an old woman on to the ground, showing great care for the elderly; one of the most neglected groups in an individualistic world.

They didn't suck. They were just average. But that is irrelevant, as I never said her writing was good.
Writing is the antithesis of what "they" are. It is an entirely internal and isolated creative endeavor. Also, fiction writing is inherently a lie, something they can't do. It is symbolic. That is why the story will likely hinge on something written by Carol.

The moment the individual humans leave the room, all pretense of humanity disappears. There's also the fact that communism is unsustainable, evidenced by the fact that they have to drink liquefied corpses to avoid starvation. They present the idea of perfection in the hive, but they can't hide or lie about their reality. They are genetically coded to drive their hosts to extinction. It could not be more obvious that this is a bad thing, no matter how good they try to make it look on the surface.

If it eventually build a huge transmitter array it will prioritise life that's the bare minimum intelligence needed to operate the transmitters, such as monkeys or indians.

How the fuck does it even make sense "morally"? Why is killing animals for food bad if the body routinely kills its component, and after death there's still a lot of life in forms of fungus, parasites and cells eating themselves to the brim?
No white male characters? Not even one? The creator, directors, writers, composer, and cinematographer of this show where all white men, yet, somehow, collectively, they have decided to just wipe themselves out from existence in the story. Very ironic given the themes of the show.
