I agree strongly with your basic statement, but am also convinced that like 80% of dentistry is a scam and complete guesswork.

There is more truth to this statement than you realize. The ADA in the US is doing a review of standard dental practices in the US and is finding out that the amount of evidence for many common dental practices and recommendations is paper thin, quite a bit behind the evidence base that is used for major medical guidelines.

They are making a push towards "evidence based dentistry" which I wholeheartedly endorse. There is no point in performing rituals of the tooth when that is literally all they are if they are of no benefit to my dental health. I apply the same minimum standard to medicine, if you can't show me solid, verifiable proof, there is no way in hell I am doing it, because it's just fucking health theatre cargo-cult shit at that point.

Idk, fuck wisdom teeth, they will fuck your mouth all up if you don't remove them.

Unfortunately this is true, except for the few that still have the mandibular space for them. I certainly didn't, sideways motherfuckers. Did their fucking best to try and crowd all the teeth in my lower jaw, fucking orthodontia was a fucking waste of time. *continues to grumble about wisdom teeth bullshit*

Ah, you are most welcome here at the Kiwi Farms, Saar. I take it you are here all the way from the Indian subcontinent and the shit you speak of is of the most wonderous and sacred cow?

Adding my two cents in support of waterflossers. I noticed the slow plaque accumulation over the months vanish once I got mine. It really speeds up my routine too since my OCD will not let me go to bed without thoroughly brushing and flossing.

The mouth hygene question is also a good indicator of a person. If you have to convince your bf/gf to brush and floss their teeth twice a day, keep looking because they're not the one.

For you waterfloss people, do you have any studies that back this up? I do it as well, but is there really any evidence it is at least equivalent or superior to flossing?

in general for everyone:

FLOSS YOUR TEETH

At the end of the day cutting goyslop out of your diet will do more for your mouth health than any fancy gizmo.

Removing all wisdom teeth is completely american take. They remove the tip too

We've seen what happens when you leave them in.
Also, we all don't lose the tip.

My dentist said most teeth problems are because of poor genetics.

I knew a dude that brushed endlessly and went to the dentist on the regular, but still had a ton of problems. Had family history of poor teeth health on his mother's side.

Knew another dude who openly talked about never brushing his teeth for years. Friends finally convince him to get a routine cleaning and his x-rays were "pristine" according to the dentist. No cavities, no gum recession, nothing. Just a lot of blood during tartar removal.

So maybe there's something to it. Might be why so many people think dentists are a scam.

Get better genetics, fellas.

I brush and floss regularly. I would feel so gross if I didn't.

Some guys on the radio were talking about dental hygiene. One of them said he didn't brush before bed but he flossed several times a day. He had teeth so I guess he's doing ok. Still... It just seems gross to me.

I'd also recommend one of those fancy motorized toothbrushes - like the sonicare or something. You a sucka if you scrubbing plaque off with elbow grease.

I would argue, if one is going to make a single change to their dental routine, it should be this. I think this is likely to be the most significant improvement one can make in their dental care routine (any actual dentists that care to chime in, it would be appreciated, since my side of healthcare only deals with dental stuff if it is somehow going to kill a person)

Was going to say exactly this. I brush decently, got cavities. My mom brushed often, got cavities. Some of the nastiest people I know never went to a dentist and their teeth are fine.

How do yall clean your tongue? White tongue is so fucking gross.

I ignore the tongue and assume the mouthwash does the job.

I haven't found a mouthwash I like since wommart seemingly got rid of their off brand that I liked using
That's thrush. Quit sucking dick/eating pussy without cleaning your mouth afterward.
Alternatively: Rinse your fucking mouth after you take your albuterol, you weak-lunged pussy.
Its not thrush, thank god. I scrub my tongue with my toothbrush but it doesn't clean as much as I'd like.
