core's a pretty good album too wouldnt call it perfect though

Core was a great debut album with a lot of great songs. I always thought it was unfair that they got compared to Pearl Jam because they sounded nothing like them.

I always wondered if that's why they changed their sound.

Ice Cube's Death Certificate (1991). His prior album, Amerikkka's Most Wanted, proved that he could rival NWA on his own as a solo artist complete with raw lyricism supplemented with 70s-80s sampling.



Death Certificate validated Ice Cube as a political rapper on the then-current state of gangland hood life and African Americans in the 90s. Every sample work blends together with its intense lyrics unlike Amerikka's Most Wanted inconsistent beats.

Don't give me started on its storytelling. There's an A side and a B side, or as Ice Cube put it: "The Death Side: a mirror image of where we are today; The Life Side: a vision of where we need to go." Death side is your typical gangsta rap lifestyle, which Cube warns that it would lead to the destruction of the African American. Then, it transitions to the Life side, where Cube unleashes his political commentary chops without sacrificing his unapologetic intensity or talent to grandstand.
